We are renting a house adn just had the carpets cleaned. Apparently there were pets in the house beofre because after having the cleaned we can smell pee in certain rooms. In our office there is a pee stain. Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove the smell/stain? We used pet cleaner with the rug doctor which helped most of the rooms. I have baking soda soaking on it right now. Any ideas or suggestions are truly appreciated!
Re: De-odorizing Carpet
My SIL had some of the same problems in her new house. She tried the professional clearners, and nothing worked. Then she tried sprinkling baking soda and letting it sit on there for about 20 min and then vacuuming it up. And it worked! It's cheap too-which is always a plus for me! I sometimes do this just to freshen up my house as well.
Oh and I didn't respond about the stain. But-this sounds crazy-but Windex works to get stains out! At least it does to get recent stains out. I don't know how it will work for old stains.
I usually just spray it on and rub it out! It works really great! HTH!
I have had good luck with white vinegar on smells.
Saturate the smelly area with white vinegar and then ventilate that room with a fan going for 24 hours. Aim the fan at the smelly area. This works best on natural fiber carpeting.
I do not have any suggestions for old stains.
Arm & Hammer makes a scented baking soda specially designed for carpet, which I think works fairly well.
So some said baking soda and some said vinegar. Remember in elementary school science when we mixed baking soda and vinegar and it caused a chemical reaction that made a foam? I've used the combination to clean hard water buildup out of a tea kettle and clean dirt off coins... I wonder if it would work on carpet??
