Newborn insurance rant

First of all, congrats to all of the new mommies!  I hope your transition is going well.  It's so hard, right?  It doesn't really get easier all around, it just gets different.

So, my rant is about insurance.  We added Eden through my hub's HR over a month ago and our insurance carrier still doesn't have record so they're denying claims.  Which means that Eden can't get her shots next week unless we're willing to pay out of pocket.  GRRRR!!!  DH just sent the HR manager an urgent email to get the situation remedied, so hopefully this will not be an issue by the end of the week.  BUT STILL.  Can't you just do your job?  Why is it taking a whole month?  Blue Cross assured me that it's an immediate update once the employer puts it into the system, so I know it's on the hr manager.   Seriously, mama bear is out in full force if my kid can't get her care because this person dropped the ball.

Re: Newborn insurance rant

  • I work in HR.  As long you filled out your paperwork on time (I am sure you did), the HR person dropped the ball.  It is simple process, and takes zero time on her part.   Typically, a newborn is added automatically when born.  So, all HR does is goes in and updates the effective date.  Sorry you have to deal with this, and what a lazy HR person.  On a seperate note, your daughter is beautiful and love the name.

  • Mir! Congratulations! What a sweetheart!

Sorry you're going through this unnecessary BS. We have a benefits center hotline here at my company that deals with all that and when I called, they updated everything right then and there on the phone and gave me a confirmation number and all.  That really sucks that one person is probably holding up the entire thing. Is your husband's HR office at his company in his building (and not in India, for example)? If it's in his office building, I'd have him march right on over there. What a PITA. Sorry, Mir.

  • Luckily it's not in India, but the company is just small enough that it's one person in Knoxville who handles everything.  I think the company is less than 500 ppl, but still, that's not alot to keep her THAT busy.  Cutiepie is right, it's supposed to be so easy (as Blue Cross has explained).

Also, here's another bragalicious picture of my kiddos

  • I have no advice for your situation but have to tell you that your babies are adorable!
  • Did you call the ins co yourself?

  • Call her every day until it's done.  Maybe even 2x/day.

    And your children are adorable!

  • What beautful kids!  Yup, I agree I would call them every day 2x a day until it is done.  After she says it is done, I would then call Blue Cross to verify she did indeed take care of it.

  • That sucks-hopefully it will get resolved ASAP!

    You children are adorable!

  • Thanks everyone!  It's so stupid b/c there's nothing in this hr portal I entered Eden in that says I had to call HR too.  I've been in contact w/Blue since a few days after I entered her thru the portal (sounds like science fiction) to find out if she'd shown up yet.  They kept telling me not to worry, that the bill could be submitted up to a year after date of service and still get paid... we just had to wait for her to be added from DH's HR dept.  AND they told me she could be added up to 60 days after birth whereas this lady is telling us we're up a creek (paraphrased) b/c she wasn't "notified" within 31 days.  It's all such red tape bull pucky.

We had the same thing happen with us with DS#1, except they put in the wrong bday making him 0 years old (he was born 12*21*09 they put in 12*21*10) so drs. and pharms fought us on all scripts and visits until it was fixed.

  • That sucks. I'm assuming the problem is if you submitted her after the 30 day window ( I think this is the normal cutoff after a "life event") that the insurance company isn't accepting it and the HR person doesn't know how to fix it.  Are you being charged for her on your premiums?

Either way, it is such a hassle.  I know what a pita it is that Claire's name isn't on my card yet, I can only imagine how difficult it is for you.  Hopefully it works itself out.
