Fun Stuff in Dallas

H and I are headed to Dallas on Friday to celebrate our first anniversary! I'm super excited. We're staying in the NYLO Plano hotel, and going to see the Avett Brothers play on Friday night. I think we're headed to Six Flags with my cousin, her H and their girls on Sunday, but Saturday is wide open.

What restaurants should we check out in Dallas? Any other fun activities you can recommend? I was initially thinking about some spa time on Saturday, but I'm getting a massage on Friday morning in OKC before we leave. I'm thinking maybe the aquarium on Saturday morning, and some shopping, maybe a movie? I dunno. Thoughts?

Re: Fun Stuff in Dallas

  • The Texas State Fair is always a blast. :) I like it more than the Oklahoma State Fair.

For shopping, I like Northpark Mall. There's also a fun little shopping area just north of that (Puppy, help me with the name of it--where Chuy's is). I think it's off of Knox. There are some great restaurants in that area as well.

Otherwise, I'm not a ton of help! Sorry! Puppy will definitely be more help.

  • My very very favorite restaurant in Dallas is Taverna. It is in uptown off of Armstrong...oh my.  DH and I can't get enough of it.  Their risotto is absolutely fabulous.  In fact, Taverna is the exact reason we go to Dallas so often - they even know us by our first names.  Stick out tongue

I would consider checking out the state fair. Texas has the nation's largest state fair and it is pretty fun to people watch. Outside of OU/TX, though, I have never been to the fair so I wonder if it is as fun without the OU/TX festivities?!?

As far as the massage, honestly, I would skip the massage in OKC and get a couple's massage in Dallas - I really like Rivieria Spa - it is also in uptown. They have the most gorgeous couple's massage room and their prices are EXTREMELY reasonable.

We'll have to look up Taverna!

As for the massage thing, I agree with you in theory, but H refuses to get a massage. I guess he's "too manly" for that. :P Also, I have a $100 gift certificate for Cottonwood in Edmond that I need to use up.

We were planning to go to the State Fair on Sunday, but decided (tentatively) to go to Six Flags instead. I know the State Fair in TX is cooler, but we just went to the OK one, and I haven't been to Six Flags in like 12 years. We'll see.

I will have to look at their K filing to be sure but I think SF installed a pretty awesome new ride this year.

YES!!  YOU MUST GO TO TAVERNA. OH MY D@MN GOD IT IS SO FREAKING GOOD.  WE ARE ADDICTED.  MY USE OF ALL CAPS IS TOTALLY WARRANTED.

  • We're not doing a lot in Dallas since we're continuing on down the Austin for the rest of our trip. We're going to check out the art museum Friday afternoon and then eat somewhere close to the concert venue. There's a Caribbean place down the street we are thinking of trying. Maybe we'll see you guys at the show. I am SOOOO excited!
