I grew up a "pop" drinker, but I think 8+ years of living in Seattle has turned me into a yuppie and now I drink "soda."

I sorta knew this clicky was going to quickly follow if I didn't put it up myself.

I grew up a "pop" drinker, but then in college my two friends were ALWAYS arguing the soda vs pop, so I placated by saying "soda pop" so I wouldn't be picking sides. Slowly, I've ended up truncating to "soda."

In my non-scientific poll during college, it seems like "pop" was very midwest and good part of northwest, "soda" was California and some of Nevada-ish, with "Coke" being the South.

I grew up (here) always saying pop. When I lived on east coast I was always teased (also about tennis shoes v. sneakers and various other west coast slang). Everyone would sing "dirty pop" from N'sync whenever I would say I wanted a pop. Now I say soda or diet coke. I was shamed out of pop. : (

That's sooo weird. My H is from NY and he ignores me when I say soda....he'll just be like "what?" until I say pop......and NY isn't even on that map as a POP namer. lol.

i grew up (here) with "pop". i think somewhere around highschool, when i learned there was another name for it, i liked it because it made me unique to say it...and "soda" has stuck with me...i like it better now!
