Card Making with Cricut Vent

I never realized how long it took to make more complex cards. I made a card for my sister-in-laws baby shower last night using the Create a Critter cart that I just bought on Amazon (yes I know I am behind the times on carts) and with all of the cutting / layering / assembling I swear it took me like an hour! I hope with time it gets easier and I get faster. The card is super cute though! (sorry no pic to upload right now).

Re: Card Making with Cricut Vent

  • I must say that this is also what I enjoy least about the Cricut. It can be such a pain to work with all those layers. I'm sure if I used it more often and found a groove it would be easier.

I'm behind the times on carts too. My mom bought the same cartridge to make stickers for my girls (using adhesive cardstock). While I'm saving (a little) money over buying tons of ready-made stickers and the girls think it's fun, the time and frustration keep me from making more.

Anyways...hope you'll post a pic of your cute card and congrats to your sis in law!

  • That's why I'm not into card making.  It's just easier and quicker to buy an inexpensive card.

  • It really does get easier. I really enjoy making cards with my Cricut. I bought both the Just Because cart and the Wild Card cart.

  • it definitely gets easier, you'll find a good method that works for you!  for me when i'm doing a lot of layered images i cut however many i need for each layer on its own mat (i probably have 15 cricut mats!) and while the next layer is cutting i'm running the layer that just finished cutting through the xyron machine so when all the layers are done, i just have to peel of the backing and assemble!!

This is a good idea. I only bought the xyron machine that does the stickers up to just over 1 inch wide. I should have bought the larger machine and if the hubs expects me to make 50+ Christmas Cards this year I may end up getting the bigger machine to be able to assemble the layers like that.

Thats a great idea! Although I'd probably run multiple images through the xyron (I haven't done this yet, I just got a 500 with a Joanns giftcard) just to save on the cartridges.  I'm quite excited to get my Zing and hoping it will make things easier when making cards.

Not necessarily, I've been making cards for 6 years and haven't bought a card since. I've done the math multiple times and the handmade card always comes out way cheaper..
