OMG scariest thing just happened :(

I came home early from work because I feel like death.

I let the dogs out (we have a fenced yard) and then got a glass of water and as I was walking back to the backdoor (our kitchen is like 4 steps from the backdoor) I randomly looked out the window and saw BOTH OF MY DOGS in the street behind our house.  Luckily, it's a super quite street and a dead end, so there isn't much traffic.

I ran to my car (with no shoes on) with their leashes and sped around the corner half in tears that the boys were going to get lost and never come home.

OMG it took me like 30 minutes of knocking on doors and creeping in peoples backyards before I found them in a little wooded area.  A guy walking down the street offered to help me.  THANK GOD.

I have no idea where they got out at.  I walked all along the perimeter of the fence and unless they grew wings and flew I have no idea how they go out!!!

I felt like death before, and now my heart is pounding and i'm shaking, so I feel even worse :(

Ugh. Little cute snuggly jerks.

  • That sucks! At least they're ok now. I hope you can calm down and feel better soon!

  • gald you were able to find them! if our gate is ever left open, we're sunk.... my dog will chase anything down the street and I'm not positive she wouldn't bite if aproached (yes, we have an umbrella policy just for her).

  • Glad you were able to get them back in the yard!  Check the bottom of your fence- we had a small dog that was frequently able to get out by squeezing himself under the fence.

  • so glad you found them!

  • Scary!!! Glad you found them!

our dog got out a month or two ago because we didn't realize the girl who lives in the basement apartment didn't secure the gate properly and sophie got out. I got in the car and started driving around and Chris walked around the neighborhood. Of course neither of us went the right way because apparently she just went to the neighbor's house and the neighbor started walking her around to find her owner. luckily Chris ran into her about 30 minutes after we started looking for Sophie. So scary!!!

  • wow that is really scary, whew, glad you got them home safely!

  • We "rescued" a doggy last night who had lost his way! He ran several miles down a really busy road! He's lucky he's ok... our neighbors called animal control rather than checking his dog tag for contact info. Hmm I just couldn't stop thinking about how sad we'd be if Scout got out so it was second nature to watch him until his momma came and got the naughty guy. Glad your pups are safe!
  • So scary! Glad they are back! I remember one time walking my dog and somehow his leash slipped out of my hands when he started chasing something. I had to drop all my bags and run through half the neighborhood before he let me catch him. What an awful feeling.
  • That is my worst fear in life!  Our first dog got off it's leash 3 days after we adopted it (rather long story) and eventually got hit by a car and didn't make it.  So I am so super paranoid, but things like this happen and I would have been running bare feet too and crying I am sure.  The only other panic situation we have had is we were getting the correct collar for our dog at Petsmart five years ago and a bunch of girls scared my dog and she pulled out of her collar and ran towards a busy intersection.  I was inside the store and could tell something was up because DH and the dog had come in to find me yet.  Luckily I found them in a non-developed field by the road and my dog was so excited to see me that she ran right to me, but my heart was pounding!
