GRSP--Green smoothies

Hi!

You probably already know this, but you can add spinach to any kind of smoothie without tasting it.  When you use berries, though, the color just doesn't turn out as pretty.

One of my favorite recipes is 1C unsweetened frozen cherries, 1/2C milk 1/2C water (you could use 1C milk if you're okay with the calories), 1T almond butter, 1/2 C ice, and a large handful of spinach.  I'll often add 1 scoop of chocolate or vanilla protein powder to this as well.  So good!

Re: GRSP--Green smoothies

  • Butting in. :-)

Andy and I love our green smoothies.

    My favorite recipe:

1 frozen banana (Peel, break up and then freeze.  We learned the stupid way you can't peel a frozen banana. ;-) )

1 or 2 handfuls of spinach

    A couple of ice cubes

    1/2 a cup of oats

    1/2 a cup of milk

    1 T. ground flax seed

I mix the flax, milk and oats in the bottom of the blender and then I put into the fridge for 1 or more hours.  Then I add all the rest (banana and ice on bottom, spinach on top. maybe a little more milk) and blend away.  It's delicious, promise.

  • Thanks.  We do add greens to smoothies.  The swiss chard works well with strawberry because it carries the coarseness well.

    Oats?  Hm...I like that idea.
