When DH and I moved into our current apartment at the end of June, I explicitly asked the woman at the leasing office for a special if we signed an extended lease. She stated that since they were so near capacity, they weren't offering any specials.
Fast forward to last week - a banner goes up at the leasing office announcing specials for 2 and 3 bedroom rentals.
Yesterday, I went to the leasing office to ask about the specials. I offered to sign a new lease, for 13 months from now, or for 13 months past our current lease (putting us into 2013) if we could have the special. The woman there (leasing manager) said she would speak to the property manager and let me know. Today I got an email telling me no.
The special would save us $600 over the course of the lease. And DH and I are into the idea of staying here for a while - we really like this place. As such, I don't plan to give up so easily. I want to write her back, being a little more insistent, possibly talking to a higher-up if I can (But without sounding snooty). How should I word such an email.
EDITED: To fix my enormous typographical errors...eesh.
Re: How would you word this?
Do I get a special? Do I need to go all lawyer on your azzzz? Do I need to cutabitch?
One of those would probably get the point across.
Hahahahaha!
This type of thing annoys me - companies are willing to give discounts to new customers (or in this case, tenants), but don't offer the same for long time customers (tenants). Cable companies are notorious for this. I understand wanting to attract new business, but geez, treat your current customers well too!
Anyway, I would probably say something like:
Dear so and so,
Thank you for your email, but I am disappointed with your response. DH and I have been tenants in your complex since June, and very good tenants at that. I find it very unfair that we are, for whatever reason, not being offered the same benefits as new potential renters. Particularly since we asked about rent specials when we signed our lease, but were told that none were available at that time. We are willing to sign an extended lease with your complex in order to take advantage of the current rent specials; something that would benefit both parties.
I understand that maybe you do not have the authority to work with us on this. If that is the case, would you kindly send me the contact information of someone who does have the authority? Maybe your supervisor, or the property manager?
Thank you for your time
XOXO,
Dehko
Love love love this and I'm about to use it. Thanks!
Make sure you use the XOXO at the end, hahahahaha
