I have an embarassing problem with my clothing that I hope you can help with! I wash my shirts in hot water with detergent. But, when I put the clean clothes on (even two weeks later), after a couple of hours of wearing them, I can tell that the armpits are starting to smell! It's so gross. It is almost as if my body heat is reactivating the previous smell, even though the clothes are clean. I wear antiperspirant/deodorant everyday.
Do you have any suggestions?
Re: EMBARASSING QUESTION!
I've had this problem. Vinegar works for the BO smell, but your clothes will smell like vinegar.
I use OdoBan. I LOVE it! I just put a sploosh in the washer (along with the regular detergent) and let it soak, usually just let it sit until I think about it again. It gets rid of the bad smell and leaves a good smell behind.
Good luck!
The vinegar thing does work. If you do it right, your clothes won't smell like vinegar.
You can try to add some baking soda or get the Arm & Hammer laundry detergent. One of the functions of baking soda is breaking down odors.
Or... Tide makes a detergent specifically for sweat odors. They market it toward sports gear and gym clothes, but it should be fine with regular clothes too. It's just regular detergent with added odor fighters.

Your shirts will not smell like vinegar. You soak the pits with vinegar and then you wash the shirt.
Personally, I don't use hot water for regular washing, cold will do just fine. I don't think it's going to help with this problem.
The deoderant is probably contributing to the problem - if you wear too much and it rubs off on the clothes, it leaves a film that builds up . Also, man made fibers hold smell much more than cotton does. So yeah, you are basically reactivating old smells.
