**cheeky**

I saw your WTF.

We quit BOA last month.  My life is much more enjoyable without them.

Now, if we could get someone on the phone about cancelling DH's cc with them, that'd be great!

Re: **cheeky**

  • glad to hear it! i was with all the previous incarnations (bank of boston/bankboston/fleet) but the fees are now just beyond fvcking ridiculous. i've been meaning to quit since 2009 when we had to spend hours on the phone UNFREEZING our accounts even though we'd both called with our travel dates. that was super fun and exactly how i wanted to spend part of my vaca. i certainly didn't want to be on the beach in rio!!

  • Since you mentioned ING, I saw a letter from them saying they're selling out to Capitol One and hope to close early next year.  Nothing like constant bank changes to keep you on your toes.

  • Gah.  Why can't banks just stay still for 5 minutes?!  Grr.

We've wanted to get rid of BOA since 2008 when they fvcked up REAL bad.  They debited my paycheck instead of depositing it, then wouldn't refund the overdraft chrages.  It was amazing.  Also, it costs no less than $5 to take money out of a non-BOA atm?  Puh-lease.

It was so liberating when I said "please close my account, and no i'm not interested in hearing why you think I should keep it open, thanks".

  • we closed our joint account with them almost immediately after the brazil nonsense but i just haven't had the energy to deal with all the switching until now.

  • I'm butting in here - I too have BOA and have been thinking about dropping them with this whole debit card debacle. I don't use mine often, but I really don't like being charged $5/mo for having the option of using it. :P

So, does anyone have a bank they would recommend? We have access to a credit union through DH's work, but it's a pita for me to use, and no branches near home.

And I am irked about ING. We have a lot of money with them and I have found them so easy to use, being able to have multiple accounts, etc.

I'd look into the credit union. Our credit union (MCTFCU) has shared branching, so while there are no branches near our house, we can go into a branch of another credit union, and perform transactions there as if it were our own bank.

We now bank with USAA.  They are leaps and bounds better than BOA.  We love love love love them.  They reimburse you for atm fees, you can deposit checks at ups stores or online, it's really great.  I think USAA is open to everyone know, not just military families.

If you can use the credit union, i'd do that if you can't get USAA.  How often do you really need to go the bank?  You can use an atm at any credit union without being charged (or at least, it was like that 3 years ago).

  • Dear BIO,

If you are just looking for a branch to deposit, definitely look into a credit union. Lots of them have online deposits (scan the check and it is ready immediately), and several have iP deposits (you do have an iP, IIRC?). FAB. I have had my credit union checking account since my junior (??) year of high school. Even though there are no branches remotely near me, deposits are a breeze. And they (mine) lets me have up to five non-CU ATM withdrawals a month.

    See you, CU,

USAA is awesome. I love that I can take a picture of a check with my iphone and it is immediately in my account. Plus, you always talk to and real, live and friendly person when you call.

USAA banking is open to anyone, but their other services are for military only ( a membership to USAA was truly was the best thing my dad ever gave me )

we have cc/insurance/car loans thru USAA -  but our daily banking is with TD Bank -- they are open 363 days a year, and let me tell you - its surprising how many times you may bank on the weekends just because you can

only downside - they are mainly a northeast/New England branch - they are expanding to NC and SC though

  • Butting in to definitely recommend credit unions if at all possible.  Ours is awesome.  I've had my account since high school and it's been 13 years since I actually lived in a town with a branch and it's never been a problem.  Everything is available online, even deposits.  We have an amazing checking account that pays a great interest rate (you have to have x number of deposits a month and y number of debit card transactions).  They also refund our fees if we use any ATM, up to 5 times per month.  I love it.

DH has USAA for his accounts and loves them too, especially the iPhone  check deposit business.
