Gifts for a 10 yo boy?

I'm stuck every year on what to get my SB for Christmas.  He'll be 11 in January.

Other than toys/games/movies - anything out of the box?

Re: Gifts for a 10 yo boy?

  • This is my go-to gift for older boys. We even gave it to a 3 year old and it was a huge hit. Everyone loves this thing!

I was going to recommend the same as TexasSmith.

Also - is the family ok with gun type toys?  Water guns and nerf guns are probably a hit around that age.  I think I got one of my cousins a set with vests you wear and play a game - can't remember if it was nerf stuff or laser gun stuff - but it wasn't that expensive.

  • there is a brand called Toy Smith that you can get on amazon or locally at Whole Earth or other toy stores. They make great solar powered robots that you biuld by adding an empty tin can or other creative stuff like that.

    iPod shuffle $49

There is another brand on amazon (haven't seen it locally) called "Wild Planet" and they make cool spy gear for kids. I got my nephew (he's 11 now) a few of these things last christmas and he loved them. Also, a cool camping flashlight and other stuff camping/out doorsy related. You could give him a copy of "The Dangerous Book for Boys" to go with it.

Apparently boys this age also really love the Guinness Book of World Records.

Star Wars or Harry Potter Lego sets are the big raffle items for middle school boys at SOTW right now.

You can get a pocket video camera (like a flip) for under $100 these days too.

  • I have lots of nephews.

Stomp Rocket, nerf guns and spy gear were big hits.

  • Thanks for the ideas!  He's got a TON of Legos, but I guess new sets are cool.  Also, new Nerf guns always work since parts get lost.

Love the spy stuff idea.  He's also into building things and loves shows like "How Its Made" so this is a great start.
