BWLO: transition to big boy bed
We are starting to think about moving Collin to a big boy bed. He is getting to be a crazy sleeper and it is making it harder for DH and I to sleep. We are planning to start with a bed for him in our room. My question is- is a toddle bed a waste of money? We could use his sister's twin bed which is less than a foot off the ground and get her a bigger bed, but a twin bed would take up a lot more room in our bedroom. A toddler bed would fit a lot better, but I am worried he wouldn't be in it long enough for it to make sense to spend the money. If we go with a toddler bed, we plan to purchase one second hand and just buy a new mattress (SIL needed the crib back for her LO so we don't have a crib mattress). Thoughts?
Re: BWLO: transition to big boy bed
I would say go for the twin bed - it might take up more room in your bedroom, but Collin will be more comfortable, and he won't have to make yet another transition from the toddler bed to the twin bed at a later date.
Jack's crib is one of the convertible ones that goes from crib --> toddler bed --> twin frame. We did convert it to the toddler bed for him, but he only really needed it like that for a couple of weeks before he was a pro at sleeping in a "real" bed. He is now in a full size bed, with no problems. If we didn't have a crib that converted, I would have skipped the toddler bed part for him altogether.

We're going to put Alex in a toddler bed and put the converted crib back together for this baby. Once the baby is big enough to move to a real bed, we'll get a bunk bed and Alex will get the top. It's all a space thing for us. Plus, Alex still spends most of the night on the floor, so it doesn't really matter what size her bed is.
For you, will you have use of a toddler bed once C out grows it? If not, just go for the twin right off
