Maryland's getting another area code
I heard on the news this morning that Maryland is adding a new area code next March. Just thought it was interesting.

Wow! Guess it has been though, since I've had my cell phone # since 98 and it starts with 240.
Yes! And there are still some areas I've travelled to where you don't have to and it always confuses me!
No I remember this. Wasn't that the point when you started having to dial an area code? I know that sounds dumb, but where DH's parents live they don't have to dial the area code. And there is definitely more than one area code in their state. People still just refer to their phone numbers by the last 5 digits. I'm always confused if we go somewhere and he has to give his parents number and tells the person 45157.
Wow, so the first 2 numbers are the same for everyone there?
We had a 301 number growing up and I remember when 410 was "far away" or I rarely heard about it.

I remember when 410 was very "far away"
that's so funny to think of now.
Yes, this. We also had a rotary phone, hahaha.
I remember when they added 410 too.
I agree with you Nez.. in FL you only dial the number and lord knows they have a ton of area codes in FL. I had to get used to just hearing a number and knowing I needed to add the 904 in front of it.
I was the other way around- when I went to UMCP I was making the move to the 301 area code from 410 and calling my parents was "long distance" and this was before everyone had a cell phone w/ free long distance.
I remember it too but I remember still being in elementary school. That doesn't make you "really old" though.
Where I grew up, you didn't have to dial area codes unless it was long distance. It confused me when I first moved here!
