Would you buy the following items used (i.e., CL etc or a consignment shop). Just wondering, and feel free to add special snowflakes/exceptions.

  • No....  unless I knew where they came from.   Like I got a hand-me down sectional from a friend at work.  It was wonderful but I def wouldn't buy it somewhere.  No way would I buy a used mattress or bathing suit.

I guess the only thing I would buy second hand is a dresser.....

    A couch? no

    Dresser? probably

    Bathing suit? eew yuck--definitely not

    Mattress? see above

Area rug? I guess. I got a rug for the girls room from BRU--it had clearly been used and returned. I got a great deal on it though so I bought it. After steam cleaning it, it looks brand new.

A couch? Probably not, unless it was impeccably clean and barely used. I just picture people and dogs lounging on it before I had it.

Dresser? Yes, I certainly have done this.

Bathing suit? No, but I did wear a maternity suit my friend gave me.....washed it really well in soapy water and dried it in the sun first though.

Mattress? I don't think so. Unless I could prove it came from a model home or a relative/friend I trusted to be very clean.

Area rug? Probably, but I would smell it first.

    LMAO at this answer!

  • Would you buy the following items used (i.e., CL etc or a consignment shop). Just wondering, and feel free to add special snowflakes/exceptions.

A couch? Yes. It would have to be in good shape, though.

    Dresser? Yes.

    Bathing suit? No.

Mattress? If it came from friends or family then yes, I would.

Area rug? Yes. Like Remy said I would smell it first. Stick out tongue

  • The only thing I would probably purchase used is a dresser.  The area rug is a maybe but with my allergies it's probably not worth it.

  • From that list, I'd likely only buy a dresser used. The couch, mattress, and bathing suit would all be a definite no, and my allergies are too much of a pain in the butt to risk what could be left in the area rug.
  • dresser and area rug only
  • A couch? it depends on the condition

    Dresser? yes

    Bathing suit? no

    Mattress? no

    Area rug? yes

  • A couch? Yes but I would inspect it thoroughly first.

    Dresser? Yes

    Bathing suit? Absolutely not

    Mattress? No

Area rug? Like the couch, yes but I would make sure it was clean, not too worn, etc.

  • A couch? probably not.  maybe if I knew the person selling it.

    Dresser? yes

    Bathing suit? no.  seems gross.

Mattress? no.  be afraid of bed bugs.  or unseen grossness.

    Area rug? maybe, again.

  • Would you buy the following items used (i.e., CL etc or a consignment shop). Just wondering, and feel free to add special snowflakes/exceptions.

A couch? No but mainly because we're pretty rough on the furniture between lots of company and the dogs that I can't really have anything already worn, we do too much of that too quickly as it is!

    Dresser? Yes

    Bathing suit? Yikes heck no.

    Mattress? Nope

Area rug? Hmmmm maybe if it was in a room that wasn't a high traffic area.

  • A couch? Yes- and have multiple times. Most recently since we are not po' we have had a sofa reupholstered for our living room and new cushions/covers made for our loveseat & sofa in our family room, but they are still secondhand. Dresser? Yes.Bathing suit?  No- but like a PP I did borrow a maternity bathing suit from a friend, and I would again in the future. Mattress?  No- but I would buy/take one from a friend or family member.  Area rug? Probably- shockingly, I have never bought a second hand rug, though I do think that the rug we got at PBK had either been returned or been a floor sample and I wish I had asked for money off of it because it seemed a little worn.  With the style of our home rugs are tricky.

  • A couch? Possibly...if I knew the person.  We have chairs in our living room I bought from my dad's neighbor's estate sale.

    Dresser? Yes

    Bathing suit? No

Mattress? Yes.  We got one from a CW, plus their bed frame and box spring for $200.  It worked.

Area rug?  Yes as long as it was clean.
