Sh*t

Well, looks like it's going to be icky and nasty in Cancun for the next 5 days. http://www.weather.com/weather/map/interactive/Cancun+Mexico+MXQR0138

We're thinking about cancelling the trip. What would you gals do in this situation?

Re: Sh*t

  • I'd go.

Forecasts aren't always right.  And even if it is, for the love, enjoy the hotel room.

But I'm not a real outdoorsy girl.

  • Ugh, Jenn! I'm sorry! Can you cancel without taking a loss or reschedule for another time? If I could do that I would probably do it. I mean the MO when I go on vacation is usually nice weather, unless it's Europe or something, but someplace tropical, crappy weather would probably ruin the trip. It all depends on what you want to do. I mean you could totally go down and just hang out in the hotel and eat and drink and have crazy hotel sex the whole time.

  • I'd still go.  There would probably still be lots of fun things to do.  And you already have the time off work etc.  And, forecasts can be wrong.

  • I would personally still go because for me the goal would be to reconnect with my partner, enjoy ourselves, and experience local foods, etc.  And there's something super sexy about swimming in the rain (no lightening around of course!)  However, if you're someone who tends to lay out all day or wants to do things outdoors, I'd see what I could do about moving your dates.  Some of my best vacation memories are from when the weather went wild and we had to find interesting things to do.

  • We were in Playa del Carmen (about 45 mins south of Cancun) in July, and the forecast said rain every day, but then they kept changing it the day before the actual day. And then, even when it said rain--it's not like it poured all day or anything. We maybe had some downpours, but it was nice the rest of the day. That's typically what you'll get in tropical climates... periods of rain every day. We had the same experience when I was in Dominican Republic with my family in college--rained EVERY morning, but then it cleared up and was beautiful.

I don't know, I guess it depends if you'd have to pay to cancel/change the trip. If it was going to cost you money, I wouldn't do it. Just go and make the best of it. Plus, you just never really know what's going to happen with the weather. Even with a stellar forecast--things change so quickly.

  • I'd go!  The percentages of rain are low most days and you just never know.
  • GO! Kevin and I had the most fun on our Mexico trip during the rainy days. Lots of sex in the afternoon and board games Big Smile But we're big dorks

  • I'd go. I know it's a different El Dorado resort than the one I've been to, BUT...

the room was amazing.  you can always enjoy the awesome bed... we had a two person shower and an in room jacuzzi.  we also read on our balcony a lot.

the food was UNBELIEVABLE.  that's one reason karisma resorts are rated so highly.  you will enjoy the food so much, that's a vacation in itself.

a lot of our evening shows were "covered" and went on rain or shine. some were pretty good!

the bars are covered (at the pool, beach, etc) so you can always be there... and our bars/barkeepers were great, and we met some fun people.

it rained almost every day we were there, but only for an hour or so, and it was no big deal.  unless it's going to rain all day every day, i think you will still get quality pool/beach time.  we played beach volleyball in the rain once and it is one of my favorite memories!

  • I mean this isn't just a small percentage of rain, we're talking 70-80% chance everyday due to a tropical depression and hurricane jova, blah, blah, blah. We don't know what to do! We have trip insurance so we'd only be taking a $175 loss.
