My Mom got a ticket for a running a redlight (caught on redlight camera) about a month or so ago. She is listed first on the registration on my car - She wasn't driving, Chris was.
She sent in the form stating that she wasn't driving and provided all of Chris' information - This is fine, this is what we wanted her to do. It's not a moving violation, and no points, but she didn't want it on her record. No problem, she shouldn't have to have it on her record.
So New port richey sends us a certified letter last week. Chris picked it up from the post office today and the amount of the fine went from $158 on the notice my mom got to $262 ..
WTF. No explanation. Just that the ticket has to be paid by Nov 4.. I don't understand how it went up $114. I will call tomorrow but I'm annoyed right now.

Yeah, she really didn't want the ticket on her record. She wasn't mean or anything about it.
I think there is a late fee, but we literally just got the notice on Friday to pick up the letter at the post office. I'm going to call tomorrow - if they don't reduce it back to the 158, chris says we are going to court.
great.

We don't mind paying the original fine - we ran the red light, we deserve the ticket. My biggest problem is the late fee (if that's what the additional 114) is.
I don't believe in trying to get out of something I'm guilty of, but we had to do the affidavit so I don't think we should be be responsible for the extra fee. . We'll see.
I think the red light cameras are a good idea, and like I said, we don't mind paying the ticket..the original ticket, not the 262.
Chris will be calling them today - I will end up yelling at someone. I'm not polite.

Take it to court for the late fee absolutely. But it's very unlikely the ticket will get thrown out. Sting, I say this fully knowing you aren't trying to get the ticket thrown out entirely, just the late fee. You're a good girl
My DH on the other hand, gets out of speeding tickets every time. He has gone to court and "thrown himself at the mercy of the judge" and gotten it dropped. He also has a lawyers office he has gone to. He gave the receptionist his ticket and $150. We got a call a couple months later from the lawyers office stating that the ticket has been dropped and all fines and punishments are complete. However, we didn't bother with that for the red light camera ticket. He did some research and found that it is an extremely low percentage of those that actually get dropped. And he clearly ran the light. We paid the ticket. At least it doesn't affect insurance rates. And at least he finally retired the sports car and got a truck that he drives like a grandma in, lol. Good luck today, hopefully y'all get it resolved over the phone and don't have to go in.
