I also have a tricare question

If I've previously received a referral for specialist care, but then I moved, do I have to go back through the whole referral process in my new location?  I see 2 specialists (cardiologist and dermatologist) and I want to avoid the hassle of going through 2 separate appointments, again, just to continue getting care.

Re: I also have a tricare question

  • I always had referrals to specific doctors. I have gotten one by just calling and leaving a message for a nurse saying "I've been seeing a specialist for this problem since xx. You can see from my medical records I need continued care and am really hoping not to waste the doctor's time by making an appointment to get this referral".

    Short answer: Yes.
Boo. I hope I can do it with a phonecall. Actually this is reminding me I don't think I ever requested a records transfer. Oops.

My records were transferred by computer. I signed a paper while waiting for my appointment that said they could have access and the nurse could look at my records by the time I was in the exam room. Hopefully it will be that easy for you.

  • Actually, the tricare lady told me a few months ago that if you have a referral, you can just call tricare to get the exciting referral transferred to a new provider.

At minimum, I'd call tricare, not the clinic, and ask them. Because if they can change it for you over the phone, ACES!

I could kiss you.  It honestly didn't occur to me to call tricare.  I have a sneaking suspicion my referrals have expired, but I'll beg :)
