Ladies who have been to Boston

DH has a conference up there and I am tagging along Friday afternoon to Monday night.  I will have most of the days to myself since he will be working, but we will be able to have dinner and hang together each night.  Any suggestions on some good places to eat?  We are looking for one nicer dinner and then the rest somewhat casual.  I was there once a million years ago and had no money at the time so fast food was my cuisine du jour.  DH has only been there once overnight for work and ate at a work dinner.

Also, I have seen a lot of the major sites...anything off the beaten path that you recommend?  I will be relying on the T to get around.  I am planning one day to go to Salem, but other than that...I got nothin'.

Thanks!

Re: Ladies who have been to Boston

  • we did the tour of the ballpark and loved it!
  • Last time I went up to visit my friend, we went to Harvest (http://harvestcambridge.com/), which would be good for a nice dinner. Todd English's restaurant Figs is also good--great pizza. In the Liberty Hotel, which used to be a prison, there is a restaurant called Clink that is good for lunch (http://clinkrestaurant.com/). The old jail cells are still there, and we sat in one for lunch. I love the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and when you go to Salem, I recommend checking out the Peabody Essex Museum--there were some cool exhibits when I was up there last year. In Boston itself, the area around Harvard is one of my favorites for walking around--great restaurants and shops. You should also check out the Mapparium in the Mary Baker Eddy Library--(http://www.marybakereddylibrary.org/exhibits/mapparium) You can do the Freedom Trail (follow the red line on the ground to see all the historic sites, including Paul Revere's house, Old North Church, and Bunker Hill).

Have fun! Boston is one of my favorite cities and very walkable, which makes it great for exploring.

  • We had a great meal at American Standard, which is close to the ballpark.  It had a pretty happening bar scene too - but it was nice, more upscale than a standard bar

We also had a great meal at this little Italian place called Papa Razzi on Newbury St

  • Salem is neat. Check out the Peabody Essex. Skip the Witch Museum. Get lunch at Salem Beer Works. Great burgers and fried pickles.

I did a lot of research when we were up there this summer but ended up not going to Boston. Some restaurants I was interested in checking out were: Ten Tables; Craigie on Main; Oleana; O Ya; No. 9 Park and Rendezvous, among others.

If you want to drive a little past Salem and get your lobster fix, Rockport, MA is a lovely little walkable town.

  • Love boston!  So much fun.

For dinners I would do Stephanie?s on Newbury, decent happy hour scene and the lobster mac and cheese is great.  B&G oyster house is also quite good.  If you wander around the North End just stop into any of the places that have a good menu and don?t look like a tourist trap; I have never had a bad meal there.

Sunday Funday happy hour at Mr. Dooleys on Milk Street is AMAZING.  I love it there.  A great live Irish music ?session?, good beers and decent bar food.  I never miss one when I am in town and I would move Dooley?s next door to my house if I could.  Patsy starts playing around 3 or 4ish and goes until 7 or 8p.  He is a great guy.

I usually just do bars and shopping when I am in Boston.  The Public Garden is a nice walk and if the weather is good wandering the Freedom Trail is good.  We went to the Children?s Museum last trip up and it was really nice too.
