are there any Air Force moms on?

I've been thinking about enlisting, but to be honest I'm scared about being away from my son which is two. My husband supports whatever decision I make, but I keep going back and forth. I have a degree in health and have looked into healthcare careers.

Any advice?

  • I assume you're looking to commission since you have a degree. Have you talked to an officer recruiter?

    What does your H do?

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.

Yes, and not yet I'm going tommorow with my husband. He is a retail store manager.

  • What is a degree in health?   What part of healthcare would you be involved in?  I'm just curious.

Is this something you've always wanted to do? Is it looking for stability? I would say with your H not in, it will be easier on your family. I am not in a dual service couple, but I hope to be soon, and while every military family has difficulties, children with a dual service couple has got to be harder. A lot (a lot a lot) of responsibility for the day to day will fall on your H. Is he truly prepared for that?

My degree focuses on community health...so anything health related really. Not nursing, but anything administrative, health/public education/social services

No I haven't always wanted to join. I was a teacher and just got laid off. I'm just looking at my options with the way the education field is right now.

  • I'm not a mom yet, but I'm coming up on my 8th AF birthday. How do you feel about deployments? Most AF deployments right now are six months. Are your husband's work hours stable enough that he can juggle daycare and all the parenting responsibilities? Is your husband okay with the high probability that he'll be unemployed if he goes with you when you PCS? It may sound easy on paper, but plenty of spouses who used to bring in a good salary, only to end up in Japan or Turkey for a few years, unemployed and hating it. What grades do/did you teach? Do you have any leadership experience?

I taught high school sciences / I've was an assistant manager for two years.... we've talked about how he would have to handle alot more on the home front, but personally I don't think he understands how much he will have to take care of.
