Lyra will eat anything so now I am trying combos as we finish out the basic foods. Does anyone have an great combo meals that their child loved?
Re: Speaking of Baby Food
I would like to know as well. I feel sorry for Sawyer because when I look at his meal, I think I would get bored with the same thing constantly.
Have you done spaghetti? What about Mac N Cheese?
I have not done spaghetti, but I have done mac n cheese. M loved it.
I do peas w/ pears, sweet potatoes w/peaches, turkey w/ apples. It sounds weird, but I have tried it all and it's fine.
Right now we are only doing veggies and a few fruits. Today I am making this banana blueberry combo. Last night she did have a bite of trout and some brown rice.
Dh and I rarely eat Mac N Cheese so it's not something we would cook for her.
I was thinking of buying some tilapia for her and then I also need to get some ground turkey.
I don't think Lyra is bored with her food as I have probably 10-15 different veggie options in the freezer we just need to move to the next level with seasons, mixed food, etc.
No strawberries but I will put peeled grapes in the masher thing he has.
Fruits, we do peaches, pears, applesauce, grapes and bananas.
When do you offer corn? This one I keep holding back on but would like to introduce. I'm afraid to introduce broccoli because of the gassy side effects.
How much meat do you guys give? Do you do meat daily? I do not at dinner because our daycare lady seems to give him meats during the day so I stick with veggies and fruits at night with cheerios and only do meat 2-3 times a week for dinner.
Do you freeze your pears, grapes, or bananas at all? I want to make pears but would like to freeze them and am curious how they work that way? Peaches have done good as long as I make them a bit thicker to begin with. I imagine grapes are made as needed? Any way to freeze bananas??
I freeze the pears. This last round, I added a little water and shouldn't have so I mix a little cereal with it to thicken it back up. Bananas we give to him fresh along with grapes but again, we put bananas and grapes in one of those fesh feeders.
A's favorites included:
Purees:
Chicken, Apple and Carrots
Pear and Apple (we added a pinhc of ginger as he got older for spices)
Blueberry, Peach and Banana
Spinach and Apples
Green Beans, Sweet Potato and pork
We also added avodcado to pretty much anything we made
First Solids:
Ground Buffalo or Lamb with Tomato bites
Tofu with anything
chunks of lightly warmed polenta
green beans
Strawberries in oatmeal (we started strawberries before a year)
Peeled Pear bites
Blueberries
We fed Anders pretty much anything we were eating after about 9 months and he has very few things that he isn't a fan of. One suggestion is to keep making things individually and then just mix a few cubes together (IE: make a batch of chicken, a batch of carrots and a batch of apples, then mix the 3 cubes together when defrosting) that way if your kiddo hates the combo you aren't wasting food-you still have the components individually frozen.
I was at first and probably should go back to mushing the bananas and feed them to him but now we are working on cutting them up and he feeding himself but he doesn't like the feel of them.
On the mesh food thing, I peel the skin off of the grapes with my teeth and eat the grape skin and just put them in the mesh. The purpose of the mesh is for them to mash it up and only a little bit of food seaps through for them to eat. Warning though...it is messy!!! He has to wear a bib because he has 2 shirts ruined because I didn't put a bib on him.
