Driving to Baton Rouge

Anyone who's done this recently with kids have any recommendations for places to stop?  I know we can't drive straight through without letting the little out to run off some steam.  Parks? Playgrounds? Chic-fil-as?
My big boy is bounding towards 3! Hoping to add a sibling. image Hipster dog is not impressed.

Re: Driving to Baton Rouge

  • We make that drive a lot with one more hour to Covington. Luckily we manage ok with just a lunch stop and my fast food boycott pretty much limits us to subway. Sulphur, west of lake Charles is pretty much the halfway spot and has the most food options. There isn't much in lake Charles along I-10. Im trying to remember if there's a playground by the lake front though. Someone else may know. I've also noticed a playground near a small lake somewhere in the vicinity of Crowley or Lafayette but I would never dream if stopping there ad we'd never be able to leave! Oh! Just thought of something. The Louisiana welcome center has some walkways behind it along the water. It would be a good place to let him run around and it's always our first bathroom stop.

  • Stop in Rayne and see the frogs. There is a cute candy store/ice cream shop just off the highway. http://www.exploratorium.edu/frogs/rayne/index.html
