  • I probably would, but I would go with her. I went to my first concert of "my" bands at 12 or 13 years old. I'm sure my mom didn't approve, but my dad went with me and I ended up just fine.

  • I voted SS because I'm not really familiar with any of their music.  Like PP said, I would definitely go with her, but that's true of pretty much any concert she goes to at this age - she will always be accompanied by H, myself, or another trusted adult until she proves herself mature enough to do something like that on her own.  DD's response to my posing this question to H was, "Why would someone want to go to a Chris Brown concert?" so I don't think I have to worry about this particular question, but we let her listen to whatever music she wants, so it wouldn't surprise me if she ended up wanting to go to a concert of an artist with explicit lyrics, and I likely wouldn't have a problem with that, unless the artist was advocating something that I find really offensive or something.

    Yes

I'm all for going to a concert with my kid, but to that concert at 12? Nope. My sister's first concert was when she was elementary school age and my mom went with her--it was a Hanson concert. Not long after that I took my sister and her friend to an Aaron Carter concert. How times have changed!

  • I ask because my 12 year old cousin's FB status yesterday was "Chris Brown concert after school :)" I just feel like she's too young for that! Plus, it was on a school night! Haha, I feel like I sound like an old grandma.

  • Absolutely not. Nope. No way.
  • My 24-year-old sister - who got free tix to the show last night - left early because all the guys did was take off their shirts and grind on girls. She was disgusted.

I wouldn't have let my imaginary 12yo daughter go anyway...but after she told me how the concert went, I definitely wouldn't have let her go.

  • Explicit lyrics? No big deal in my book. So, a concert with explicit lyrics (with me or DH in tow because 12 is too young to go to a concert alone!) is fine by me. However, we vote with our pocketbooks, so I'd never want to support a teen idol who shouldn't be idolized.

    My thoughts exactly.

  • I would not let my imaginary kids go to a concert like that. However my first concert was Blink 182 at the fair grounds on a school night, I was about 15 and my mom let me go with a friend, no parents. I think bands & location are things to take into account. If my kid wants to go to a concert at FC then have fun or smaller venues but I dont think I would even be letting my kids be downtown alone let alone a concert there.

*Side note: I really should write my 2 cents down about how I think I'm going to raise my kids and what they can and can't do. I'm sure after I have them everything I thought I was going to do will somehow change.

This, exactly. I wouldn't put any money in Chris Brown's direction, period.

But yes, there's no way I would let my 12yo go to that concert. Not a chance. Anyone see those little girls on Ellen singing Super Bass by Nicki Minaj? Yeah, they were adorable, yeah they were impressive, but I was still stunned that their parents were okay singing that song. Has anyone ever looked at those lyrics?  Indifferent

This.  Except I was the one who wasn't allowed to go (Def Leppard - lmao) and I was crushed.  And I REALLY don't think it would have hurt me to.  But I'd either want me or my DH to go, or at least an aunt or uncle or something.  I would not let my 12 year old go by him/herself or with a friend.

  • There is no way any money of mine is going to that arsehole. Even if he weren't a total d-bag, that is waaaay to explicit and adult for a 12 year old. Or 15 year old, IMO.
