I got some awesome news yesterday
My gym is going to be hosting a Level I CrossFit certification course in January. If you pass the certification you are allowed to coach under the CrossFit name, you can judge at competitions, and it is just a great learning experience. It is an all weekend thing where you do workouts and learn techniques and such. So I have been wanting to do the course for quite a while now, but usually people have to travel a pretty far distance to get to one, pay for a hotel and gas, and then the course itself is $1000, which is more than I want to spend on something that I will not get tons of use out of.
Well anyway, since my gym is hosting the cert, they get a few scholarship spots, meaning free, and the owner told me yesterday that she is giving one of those spots to me (I did not know that they were hosting, much less getting scholarship spots)!!!! I am so excited! I absolutely never expected this, so it was a huge surprise!
Other good news, it looks like I may be going back to one of my old wind tunnels, at least for a while. I actually really like the tunnel that I am at right now because they do some really neat dynamic testing, which can get pretty crazy, but I can not stand working for the 2 guys that manage the tunnel. I try to not complain about work on here, but man, enough with the micromanaging and incompetence. And the old tunnel is really close to where DH works, instead of on the attached Air Force base.
Some not so great news, that I am a bit worried about (and I actually feel really stupid about and embarrassed). This past weekend I was driving and suddenly a red widow spider (I had to look it up) dropped down between me and the driver side window. I freaked out for a second, was not paying enough attention and swiped the curb with my car (I know, so dumb, and I am still really mad at myself, this is also when the spider landed on me). Lucky no one was around and I did not hit anything at all, but now my car is making a funny sound, so I guess I need to take it in. I do not want to admit this at all to the mechanic when I do take it in, but I will. (I was able to quickly flick the spider out the window from on my arm in the end, no bites or anything).
So, that is what is up with me, and it is almost the weekend, yay ![]()
Re: Since it is slow
My jaw just literally dropped when I read you got the Crossfit scholarship!! What an awesome opportunity --- is your DH jealous?
And about your spider story? Yeah I once pulled over in a gas station and had a stranger get a bee out of my car because I was so scared I almost crashed. I can't say its not embarrassing, but I can say I've been there!

That's awesome about the scholarship! And that sounds like a great opportunity to become a trainer.
My bug story with cars: I had bee fly into my truck when I was college. I was driving down this really busy street, but somehow no one was around. I stopped the truck in the left lane and hopped out of the car dancing around until he flew out and away. I jumped back in my truck and drove away.
I don't know if I'm allergic to bee stings but I swell up like a silver dollar with mosquito bites so I don't really want to find out. I don't know who saw me because the street is apartment buildings and home on both sides, I just wanted that bee gone.
First, that is awesome about the Crossfit!!!
Second, Jeff and I drove all the way to Wisconsin once with a praying mantis in the back and never noticed it until we got to about Madison. And, another time we had a tree frog in my car. It was crazy! Right now there is a grasshopper in there (about 3" long) that I'm scared to shoo out...haha!
What an opportunity! Congrats on the scholarship
About the spider incident: I know it's embarrassing, but don't sweat it too much, you're human and you're allowed to make mistakes sometimes. I'm so glad you were not seriously injured!
My worst bug incident was in college. I was in a bagpipes corp and was playing for a HUGE and very formal celebration. Basically, you are not allowed to move out of line unless you are dying. Well anyway, as we are marching, I see a hornet fly and land onto my knee and then I can feel it walking up my kilt (yes I was wearing a kilt!) and the anticipation of the sting was so much worse than the actual sting itself, but I did good and did not move out of formation until the song was completed.

Glad to hear the other bug stories
I am also allergic to bees like a few of you, so I completely understand freaking out around them. DH and I went to dinner this past Sunday, and it was amazing outside, so we got a table on the patio. when our food came there were a few bees that would not leave us alone. I was so annoyed, DH finally offered to move inside so we could enjoy our dinner.
Ugh, the though of feeling a hornet crawl up my leg completely creeps me out, ick.
Thank you for all the congrats on the CrossFit scholarship, I am very excited, and yes, DH is a bit jealous
oh. my. god. NO. I would never ever ever allow a flying insect up my kilt, no matter the consequences. You are BRAVE.
Congrats on the Cross Fit scholarship! I'm sure it'll be an awesome experience!
I have the same problem with spiders in my car too. So no need to feel embarrassed!
