so my carry on was perfect on the way to nyc.
on the way back, the stupid guys at the new jersey airport made me check it... it was irritating because it is within the guidelines.. but he said the wheels make it too tall.
i don't know if anyone of you cared, but it was a really high anxiety thing for me on the way there, hoping it could fit into the overhead compartments and no one would stop me. it wouldn't matter to check it, but i just wanted to see if it would work for future trips! i wanna carry on to foreign countries.. i guess i need to get a smaller one.

that would have been perfect. i don't care to pay for it, i just wanted to see if it was possible to carryon to mexico.. and it probably will be, but not home from mexico, lol.
I've been forced to gate check stuff that is within the size limits due to the overhead bins being full, etc. It sucks, but I'm glad I don't have to pay the fees.
