Any credit union members?

If you're a member of a credit union, which one and do you like it?

We live and work in Dakota and Ramsey counties. It looks like we're eligible for Heartland, Wakota, US Federal, Affinity Plus and City & County and maybe others that I haven't found yet.

I've been a member since I was about 7.  It used to be a teachers only credit union, but has expanded over the years.  I believe they're only northern 'burbs locations though.

I totally recommend a credit union.  I feel like I have more control and much better service with them versus any other bank.  I've gotten all my vehicle loans through them.

  • I have belonged to Hiway Federal Credit Union since I was a kid, and I have always been pleased with them. I think it is supposed to be for state employees, but they let anyone join.  They are right in St. Paul on Empire which is right off of Pennsylvania.
  • I used US Federal Credit Union for the longest time.  Great rates on loans and pretty good customer service.  I am in the process of switching over to US Bank though just because DH and I are finally joining our finances and US Bank gives us some special treatment because of the business we give them.

  • We are members at Wings Financial Credit Union.  It used to only to available for airline employees and family, but it has recently opened to the public.  We are very pleased with them.  Their loan rates are always good and the customer service is great!

  • We are members at Affinity Plus and I can't say enough great things about them...they have great rates and always willing to work with us for whatever we need. We will never go back to a bank or another credit union. They also have been awesome with loans and rates for my husband, who is still rebuilding his credit from a few dumb mistakes he made when he was younger. Highly recommend Affinity Plus.

  • I'm a blood relative of a tradesman so I have banked at Minnesota Building Trades since my parents opened my account with my Baptism money as a baby.  They are great.  Their car loan rates have always been better than other banks and they've been fantastic about re-financing things along the way (we put money onto my old car loan to cover some unexpected expenses for instance) when necessary.  The interest rate on savings accounts isn't that great - but that is a pretty universal thing these days.
  • I have been a member of Edina School CU since Birth & LOVE IT just a few years ago they merged with a Hopkins one and now called West Metro CU. Since I have been going since birth (and my Grandpa help start it) they know who I am & it's more like visiting friends then doing my banking :)

Before I know you had to have a connection to Edina schools but now I think it's open to everyone.

  • I have been a member of Richfield/Bloomington Credit Union for 12 years, and will never return to a big bank. I originally became member because I worked for Bloomington Schools.  I believe they pretty much let anyone join now.  We always receive great genuine customer service.

  • I belong to Royal Credit Union through my real estate stuff, but our personal things are through a local bank...which we'll be switching to an even more local bank when I find a few extra hours in my life to do the change over :)
  • Wow, thanks everyone! I will definitely check all those to see if we qualify.

We're looking at refinancing our mortgage. DH called US Bank and the rate was 5.5% but it looks like some of the credit unions are even lower. I wouldn't be opposed to moving all our accounts for great service and low loan rates!

I love Wings!  I used to be a member at Heartland, but I had some horrible customer service issues.

  • I am a member at Hiway Federal Credit Union as well, and I LOVE them. I have been there for about 10 years, and I will never go back to a "bank" again.  In fact, I live in NY now, and I still have my account at Hiway. Stick out tongue There are affiliate credit unions all over where I can make my deposits and the funds are available immediately.
Lots of love and continual explosions of babydust to my BG Besties! XOXOXOXO
