Rhyming names: poll of sorts

Why do parents give their children first name- Last name combos that rhyme? (sorry to anyone who might have had a rhyming name)...

I understand when people get married, and their names rhyme (I know two people IRL who were not too thrilled to take their H's last name at marriage because they rhymed), but why do it when you name a child?

The intercom just announced for Logan Degoden (or something like that) to come to the office. You could hear the office secretary trying not to laugh once she said it (yes, unprofessional).

If you loved a first name, would you still use it even if it rhymed/ sounded funny with your last name?

NO WAY - it's weird! You know what else I think is so friggin weird? Names like John Johnson or Ben Benson. What? Why??

I would NOT have taken H's name if it rhymed with my first name either, I don't think.

This post made me think of Julia Guglia - hahaha.

  • I would not do that to my kid.  We're also going to be looking closely at initials and what those spell.

I went to school with a kid named Evan Evans.  Why would you do that?  It's so redundant, but I guess memorable.

  • We have already ruled out any 2 syllable first name that ends in "in" "en" or "on" because it would sound so ridiculous with our last name. When you think about it there are a lot of examples of people that do the first name is the start of the last name thing - Kris Kristofferson, Jens Jenson, etc. It's weird.

This. We are also pretty against having kids with "S" names. Most of you know our first and last names so you know how silly it would be.

  • We've (and by that I mean I've) ruled out names that end in the "en" sound also, but because it's so over done.  Braydon, Jayden, Hayden, augh, no thank you.
