Downtown dinner and hotel recs please...

I live north of Houston in the suburbs and rarely get into the city but would like to go downtown(area) for a nice birthday dinner and then spend the night (i.e. drink and not have to drive home!) Would love a boutique type hotel if you know of any...otherwise a nice hotel in general. No preference for food type though!

Thanks so much!

  • The Magnolia always has some kind of deal. I've enjoyed it every time I've stayed there.

  • Hotel Icon is amazing.

If you aren't set on downton, Hotel Zaza is so much fun.

    So Tasty, So Yummy
  • I love 17 restaurant at Alden Hotel, lunch next day at Treebeards. Lancaster is beautiful hotel. Everyone raves about Vic n Anthonys too. Happy Birthday. Have a great time.

  • Downtown I would stay at Alden or Icon. Foodwise, 17 is good, as is Voice (both are the 2 hotel's restaurants). ZaZa is fun, but I've never personally been too impressed with Monarch (their restaurant). I've had awful service there the past 2 times I've eaten there!

  • For hotel, I love the Lancaster :)

  • I agree with what everyone else is saying about staying at Icon, Magnolia or Alden Hotels, all are in downtown. Zaza is a neat hotel but it is more in the Museum District. As far as downtown food, I have ate at 17 in Alden Hotel a few times and it has never disappointed. Voice is good as well. You might also consider Sambuca. Someone suggested Treebeards which has great food, but they are only open weekdays until 2:00. But if you go you must go to Treebeards in the church, Friday's they even have a band, its awesome! Have fun!
  • I also agree with the Icon suggestion, or Magnolia.  I've seen great deals at Magnolia, but Icon is super cute and the rooms are very unique.

  • Alden Hotel is great and their restaurant 17 is amazing. If you let them know you are celebrating a special occasion they will send desert and champagne to your room. The hotel bar is pretty good as well. Try their mojito. Delish!!!!!!!
