Emily

I had blood pressure that "creeped up" throughout my pregnancy, too. I never had any other pre-e symptoms, though. Still, my doctor was concerned enough about the BP (and Nora's size, since I was measuring very small at the end) to talk about induction toward the end--but thankfully, I went into labor on my own at 39 weeks.

Hang in there; you are almost done! What does your doc think? Mine called it "late gestation hypertension."

Re: Emily

  • Just wanted to add that I had something similar - my doctor called it gestational hypertension and said something like 10% of all pregnancies develop it, but only 4% turn into pre-e (or maybe 6% - I took great comfort in the statistics for some reason). I also went into labor on my own at 39 weeks, without ever developing pre-e, and the only monitoring that I had while in labor was bp, and it was perfectly low through labor and delivery.

We talked induction multiple times and it was very stressful, but if I developed it again with a second pregnancy, it wouldn't be nearly as stressful. Good luck!

  • Hey Heather! She hasn't necessarily called it a particular name (i.e. hypertension), but others have been discussing it that way. Unfortunately I have a lot of pre-e symptoms, which adds to the stress of the situation.

Both my parents took my BP while at their house tonight and all of them were bad. I trust it was accurate, as they both know what they are doing and have been doing it for a long time. I'm making a list of times/bp's/which arm/etc. to take to the MD on Monday when I go. I wasn't feeling bad (more than usual) when having them taken, and they were still high.

The Resident at the hospital basically told me not to take my bp unless I feel really bad. Well, my parents are concerned and want to take it and monitor it, so I let them. Based on me currently feeling not worse than usual and what the MD said at the hospital I didn't call my on-call MD. I know if I had I would have been sent to the hospital again and monitored, then sent home. If I have to call and go to the hospital every time my BP is over a certain point, I'm going to be there every d@mn day.

My BP is pretty steady hanging above where it should be, and then spikes up even higher. It's become an issue in the past 6 weeks or so, but worse in the last 3-4. I worry that it will get really high during labor if it's already high when I'm doing nothing, then end up in trouble and/or with a c-section.

I didn't hear back from my 24 hour urine collection tonight, so I'll hear about that at my appointment on Monday. My last collection was 240 and the limit is 300. They also took my BP while there, it was high, and I asked them to show it to my MD and see what she thinks. I don't think they did though.

It's really frustrating having to do nothing, because DH is not much of a help around the house unless I remind him a million times a day. We may have just gotten in a fight over this...I think it's ridiculous that he says he's all for helping but doesn't do anything to do so. Then if I constantly remind him, then I'm going to be the nagging wife, he's going to be pissed, and everything still sucks. My parents are all for helping in any way they can, but DH needs to step up too. We were with my parents tonight and my Dad asked if he could help with anything around the house. DH would have said no, despite all the projects he hasn't done. Luckily I spoke up before him and named a bunch of things that are on DH's list that he hasn't done yet (e.g. hang the new shutters, dig up the lamp post in the front yard, etc.), so hopefully something will actually get done.

Well, hopefully we'll have some answers/decisions on Monday. I think we will. I can wish that I go into labor on my own, soon, to avoid the possible induction, etc.

Thanks for thinking of me, and sorry it's so long...

Thanks for responding. Hopefully this will be true for me also.
