  That's not surprising -- if someone puts such a high value on money and material things, of course their marriage is going to suffer. A marriage isn't something tangible, so why would that person place value to it?

  What Amanda said. I don't find this all that surprising either. I tend to think that people who are really materialistic are harder to get along with in general because nothing is ever enough, you know?

  True, but you might think if BOTH parties are like that it would work out, but it seems like not the case.

  This. Exactly. That is why we do not associate with some of our fromer friends b/c one of them is always materialistic and trying to "one up us"
