taggie toy question

Hello,

I'm a new sewer and a first time mom to be so sorry if this is a stupid question.  One of the first things I made was a taggie toy.  I like playing with it lol (it has crinkle inside) but I am worried and fh said the same thing, how do we know baby won't pull the ribbons off and choke?  The tutorial I used only had the ribbons sewn once, but I sewed the ribbons with a zig-zag stitch, then sewed the whole thing together with a straight stitch.  I still worry that they ribbons can come off?  Am I just a worry wart?

 Thanks!

Re: taggie toy question

  • It sounds like it will be more secure than some of the store-bought toys out there!  I make taggie blankets and they are double sewn...once from the inside then flipped and top-stitched.  No one has ever had any problems with the ribbon coming loose.
  • When I've made mine, I baste the ribbons to one layer of the fabric, sew the two pieces together, and flip out and do a decorative (stitch-heavy) top stitch. I had vicious little teethers and not even one ribbon from the first one I made (and that one was stitched by HAND!) escaped. The more recent machine sewn versions I've made still look great, too. :)
