FML again

The storm we had Thursday night caused the right half of the tree to totally split from the left. The whole base of the tree moves when the wind blows. A complany is coming Monday to take it down... for $4000! They have to bring a crane into the yard because the canopy spans 4 yards!

Re: FML again

  • That seriously sucks. I get that it's a big tree and that it'll probably involve several guys and heavy duty equipment, but I'll still never understand why tree services are so expensive. $4k is A LOT of money.

  • Yeah, we got a quote 2 years ago to get it down. They said it wasn't dangerous then, but could be later. So we decided to wait it out. This isn't our forever house. But it looks like there's no more waiting!
  • I knew removing trees were expensive, but I didn't think they were 4K.  damn!

  • I feel your pain- we have had our fair share of tree woes as well and 4k does sound like a lot, but we've been quoted that before for our pines.

At least once its gone it'll be a huge relief. I know before our last tree fiasco we were always worried about the trees and branches hitting the house/neighboors house.

I commented on your fb pic, but I'm curious as to what kind og tree it it. It look shuge from the the pic.

  • It's a red oak. And they are notorious for having double leaders... splitting and then falling.
  • And yes, its diameter is over 5 feet!
