Induction date is set! Who has already had an induction?
So if Tessa doesn't make her arrival before then, my induction is set for 5 am on October 25th.
I am, of course, hoping to go into labor before then--I already asked about getting my membranes stripped at my 38 week appt, but I'm going to ask for it today too.
However, if it doesn't work, who has experience with an induction already? The nurse at L&D said I'm set to start pitocin, and didn't mention anything about cervadil so I'm assuming they won't be using it. I'm super nervous about the whole process and thinking that it'll end up in a c/s. My sister was induced, but hers was crazy fast and her whole process from pitocin to delivery was FOUR hours. I am not expecting anything close to that.

Re: Induction date is set! Who has already had an induction?
I was induced, I was only 37w3d and it was my first (and I'm overweight and predisposed to c/s anyway). I was positive I'd end up with a c/s and I didn't. It was very long but I also had absolutely nothing going on in the way of effacement or dilation. I was completely unfavorable.
Since it's your second and I think you already have some 'movement' going on, right?, I hope yours is smooth!
ETA: Oh and I had Cervadil and Pit, but everyone is different.
But I won't get on that soap box.
I was induced and didn't have any problems. My quick story:
Went in at 3cm,80% used cervadil overnight. Was at 4 100%in the morning when they started pitocin. Broke my water an hour later (730ish). By 145 I was 10cm and ready to push but baby wasn't far enough down so they made me wait until 4pm (that was by far the worst part). He was sunny side up which is what the issues was but I was still able to deliver vaginally- thanks to my doctor's persistence and unfortunately, the vacuum.
Although I don't have anything to compare it to it is often said that pitocin contractions are worse than regular because they come strong and hard without a break in between. This was very true for me. I got my epi between 5-6cm and needed it by then. So, I'm not sure if you went natural with T (I think so?) but just keep that in mind.
Best of luck lady... I can't believe you are so close to meeting #2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our crazy, wonderful life
Haha, go ahead if you want!
I certainly have my opinion about them. I would absolutely not do one unless it was medically necessary. Both my Dr and the MFM who has been overseeing my ultrasounds are concerned the placenta isn't providing enough nutrients to Tessa, contributing to her small size (9th percentile)...so that's the only reason I'm (possibly) having one.
As of last week, cervix was long and closed. Dr said she won't do induction if it's not favorable, but they also don't want me to go to 40 weeks, so I'm not sure what would happen (assume that's then they'd do cervadil).
Haha, I definitely had an epi! I was 4 cm when I got to the hospital with Taryn and I told them to hurry up and start the IV so that I could get my epi! By the time I went through one bag of fluids and the epi was being prepared, I was 7 cm. But I've heard the same thing about the contractions being stronger.
Guess we'll just see...hopefully today's appointment will get things going a bit
You'll do great! If they haven't said anything about cervadil they may not use it, I never had it, just the foley and pit.
Here is my story
I was induced on a Tuesday night. I went into the hospital at 7pm, but it was shift change so I didn't even meet with the nurse until after 8. When I walked in I was a finger tip dilated and only 50% effaced. After checking me and calling the doctor for his induction instructions I received a foley catheter at 9:30pm and had the lowest dose of pitocin started that they could prescribe. The next few hours were a little intense. They never had to turn up the pitocin, it was really doing its thing. The foley was uncomfortable, but ok. At midnight I was at a 4 (foley popped out) and they asked if I wanted my water broken. I told them that was ok, but I wanted the epidural first as I had heard that breaking the water can speed things up. 1am, epidural. 1:10 am waters broken.3:30 am- I am complete and they ask me to sit up Indian style to get the baby to naturally drop further into the canal. Little guy was sunny side up so they warned me that it could be more difficult when pushing.4:00 am- practice pushes. 4:15 am- real pushes. The nurses were discussing the 5am c-section they had scheduled in the operating room. I looked at the clock and told them "no problem, I'll have this baby out by then". They laughed pretty hard.4:53am- Charlie was born. I told the nurses that they better hustle over to their c-section or they'd be late. The whole process was extremely fast. In fact, as they were transferring me to the mother and infant room the anesthesiologist was coming back in to re-dose me. I laughed and told her she was too late, I had had the baby two hours ago!I was very happy with my induction, and have talked with many women who have had similar quick inductions as well. You never can tell how your body will react.
I was induced.
The day before I was supposed to get cervadil, but the doctor on call didn't see a need for it and sent me home, after I was already in the bed and in the gown and all...
The next day, pitocin started a little after 9am. She was delivered at 1:23. So 4.5 hours - very fast (and only about 10 minutes of pushing). They also broke my water when they started the pitocin so I think that helped speed the process up. So ask for frequent checks to see how far along you are - I wish I did since I hide pain well and they had no clue I was so far along.
I don't have anything to compare it to. But was able to go epidural free with pitocin. I did get Nubain but it did nothing. I was walking around 30 minutes before she was delivered. But the contractions were so bad I was able to get about 1-2 steps between each one before I had to stop and lean against Nick.
Good Luck!
ETA: no one was prepared for me to deliver. My doctor was all scrubbed up for a D&C and almost ready to enter the OR, but nope, I stole her. I remember my nurse checking me and saying "o ok there is the head". When I went into my induction I believe I was 2cm and 60% or something around there.

I am extremely jealous of all of these fast inductions.
I am hoping my next L&D is half as fast as it was this time. Which puts it at about 15 hours.
FML.
Never had a baby, so I haven't been induced.
I just wanted to say GOOOD LUCK!
I was induced and it ended in a c section. I was 42 weeks exactly (according to ultrasound) so no hospital anywhere would have given me more time. I believe my body was not ready yet and according to when I conceived I was really only 41 weeks. Collin was also sunny side up which may have contributed to why I never progressed past three. The fact that you have had a vaginal delivery is in your favor. Definitely check with your dr though because not inducing if you are not favorable could mean scheduled c section. That is something I would want to know asap.
Holla'
Yup! Although I wasn't induced, my body was naturally super slow.
Nicole - Good luck. I hope you go on your own soon.

I was induced for my BP at 39 weeks. I had been having consistent contractions the previous week, but nothing longer than an hour. My membranes were stripped in the morning and I went into the hospital around 7 that night and was 2cm maybe? Cervadil all night.
Broke my water at 8am the next morning and was pushing by 3:30. They only turned the pitocin on twice for less than 30 minutes each time. Once they broke my water my labor progressed well on it's own. When I began pushing they realized that Molly was sunnyside up and diagonal as well. Apparently I also have a narrow pelvis. I pushed over 90 minutes using different positions to get her to move. I was making progress but her head became stuck and started swelling. Then her heart rate started to drop with each contraction. I refused the forceps and vaccum (due to a previous family death) so I went in for the emergency c-section. No one in my family has been able to deliver vaginally (guess the narrow pelvis is hereditary?) so this wasn't a surprise. I really don't think my induction had anything to do with my c-section, but who knows?
FWIW my c-section recovery wasn't bad. I was up walking around the very next day.
I was induced 10 days past my due date. Baby was still very high, but they didn't want to let me go much more past my due date. Here is the run down with Abby:
6pm- get cervidil, then contractions started (I was also closed up tight, not even a fingertip dilated)
1am - water broke on its own, checked and was 3cm dilated!
7am - got epidural, still only 3cm dilated
3:30pm- still only 3cm dilated.. baby was not moving down at all! So we decided to do a c-section. She was so far up, they really had to pull her down and out during the c/s.
I wasn't favorable at all, but was also 10 days late. Who knows if I ever would have gone into labor on my own. I never did with the twins (wasn't even a fingertip dilated with them at 38 weeks 1 day). Recovering from a c/s wasn't that bad!
Good luck and I hope you go on your own!!
Cut the Crap - Weight loss journey of a Few Fat Chicks
I was induced 7 days after my due date. I was only dilated to a 1 and was about 60% effaced.
I was given cytotec at about 8am and by 6pm I was only dilated to a 3. I ended up getting an epidural around 9pm which really slowed labor down (not that I was really doing much to start with!). So then I got hooked up to pictocin. At some point in the middle of the night when they checked me my water broke, but that did nothing to speed things up. They had to keep backing off on the pictocin because Marshall wasn't responding well to the contractions, but each time they would back it off labor would really slow down...my body wasn't taking over.
By 1:30pm the NEXT day the dr. decided that I was at a 7 or so, but that he could stretch me to a 10. The reason I wasn't at a 10 is because Marshall wasn't engaged at all. When he would touch Marshall's head he would pretty much float up and out of the birth canal.
While I know that my body obviously wasn't ready to go into labor I think even if it had I would have still ended up with a c-section because I don't think Marshall was going to fit at all.
My original due date was the 17th, then changed to the 7th. Zac was born on the 13th. Who knows if I was really over due, or early ... I still can't decide.
At 9 AM they started me on pitocin.
At 2:00 PM I was 2 cm and the Dr. broke my water.
At 5:00 PM I was 3 cm and got the epidural.
Minutes later Z's heart rate dropped, but they did what ever they do to fix that.
At 11:00 PM I was still 3 cm.
At that point the Dr. decided that Zachary wasn't engaged, I wasn't progressing and with his size it would be best if I just had a C/S. So we did and he was out at 1:15.
Like L & M I honestly do not think my body (or Zac) was ready to be born. I understand at 41/42 weeks having no choice but at the same time I think signing women up for inductions is the reason why the c/s rate is out of control. I feel it just slows down the natural process or simply interferes with it.
Especially when it is questionable when the actual due date is.
I think with his size she felt I was full term, but I was also borderline GD which is known to cause big babies too.
Me too, Megan!
Best of luck, Nicole! I so hope that Tessa decides to come on her own so you won't have to experience an induction!
