I was at the crate and barrelOutlet in old town Alexandria yesterday and they have marrimekko fabric for $3.95 per yard. It's mostly decor weight, but there are some lighter cottons. It's 54" wide, so great for quilt backing!

Hello! Thanks! That's a great tip, I'll walk up there tomorrow!
Also, I know it has taken forever (I suddenly ran out of time with 6 babies due between October and December and had to get cracking on shower gifts- then discovered I was shorted fabric for backing and had to wait for shipping), but I'm actually quilting the metro quilt! Hopefully I'll have picture soon!
