How to meet people...

I am not from around here and was wondering if there are any ways to meet people. Maybe gatherings or discussion groups that allow outsiders?

Re: How to meet people...

  • I lived out of state for a year when doing a residency and didn't really know anyone in the city I was in.  I found a group on Meetup.com that got together a few times a month for social gatherings.... bowling, dinner, brewery tour, hayride, etc.  They have a variety of groups with different interests.

Otherwise, you could look for a local Jaycees chapter.  I was fairly active in the St. Paul chapter a few years ago and met a bunch of people.  The Jaycees are a volunteer organization that focuses on community service.  But they too have frequent activities - social events, community service, fundraising, etc.

  • H and I are in the same boat.  Well, I guess me.  H grew up here so he still hangs out with his HS friends; I moved here and have a couple female friends, but scheduling makes hanging out difficult.

What things are you interested in?  What part of Mpls do you live in (not stalker-ish, just wondering what things are near you, etc) Smile

  • I've had success meeting new friends by getting involved in activities that I like to do. I've met new friends through community ed classes, volunteering, and by joining social groups at church. In the Twin Cities, there are lots of activities going on and lots of groups/clubs. What are your interests? I'd be happy to tell you about related clubs/groups if I know of any...
  • There are a ton of local bars that do trivia nights, we've been wanting to go to them more. Some of them are definitely more aimed at the college age crowd, but there are a lot that are more adult. We also like to attend beer tastings at Four Firkins (its in St Louis Park, a specialty beer store where tastings are free).
