Wood Storage Box
Today, I purchased a small wood box with a hinged lid to store small Christmas village people in. (My intent was to keep the people in their own place amongst the Christmas village houses. As small as they are, I assumed they would get lost in the mayhem of fake snow, trees, and houses.)
Can anyone help me figure out a way to decorate this plain wood box? The gift is going to my father. I am not wanting it to extravagant but the plain wood bothers me and lacks personality lol. Any ideas?

Paint or stain it?
I thought about painting it. I do have a lot of paint. Maybe I could find a cool design somewhere.
I'm not very ingenuitive when it comes to painting. I prefer painting houses for that reason lol.
