What are you reading?

I have been in the mood to read a lot lately. I have been reading a lot of best sellers and have been enjoying them. I just finished the Hunger Games trilogy and loved it. I have no idea what I want to read next!

What are you reading?

Re: What are you reading?

  • Just re-read the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare (City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels). Yesterday I read Passion by Lauren Kate and I think tomorrow I'm going to start the 5th George R. R. Martin Song of Ice and Fire book, Dances with Dragons.

If you liked Hunger Games, the Mortal Instruments series is good. I also read Matched by Ally Condie, which is a lot like The Giver that was really good too, but a "to be continued..."

  • I'm not really into fiction books, the Belgariad (sp?) series by David Eddings was just about the best fiction I have ever read, and I think it just ruined everything else.

At the moment I am reading the second of Jeremy Clarksons books containing his newspaper columns.  Have also been reading some short stories written by Ambulance drivers, and have 'An idiot abroad' and Michael Palins 'Round the world n 60 days' all lined up.

  • Bridget Jones' Diary is my current pre-bed book, and I'm reading Jane Eyre on my Kindle, mostly during my commute (I take the bus).
  • Now that the new TV season has started, I haven't really been reading anything.  However, I LOVED the Hunger Games.   Room was really good too.
    my read shelf:

  • AH! The Hunger Games is a fabulous trilogy!  I started by reading the first one out loud every day for the last 10 minutes of class to my 7th graders last year, and then I had to go and finish them all on my own because I couldn't wait to finish them.

I'm reading The Help and World War Z right now.  Another awesome book is The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian by Sherman Alexi.  It's so funny and so good.

I loved The Help.  So much better than the movie.  Also the True Diary was great.  I make all my students read it in the Adolescent Literature course I teach.

  • I wish I actually had the time to read. I enjoy reading so much. I will definitely be reading during my Christmas break. Over the summer I was able to read "The Help" and I loved it. It was a very well written book and it depicted the struggles of "the help" in a fantastic way. I'm actually interested in reading "Room" its a novel written in the perspective of a young boy. It is about a mother and son living life in a closed room without any outside contact.

LOVED True Diary as well! I have The Help but haven't started it yet...I am currently reading Anishnaabe World by Roger Spielmann - it's insightful and pretty humourous as well!

I have been reading my Yoga Journal mags and love those!! Other than that, I will be re-reading April Raintree as this is the novel that my Aboriginal Voices (Literature) class is doing for our novel study.

Love love love reading!! Great thread!!

  • I loved Hunger Games as well. About three months ago I picked up Game of Thrones and am in the fourth book now. Can't wait to see how this monster will end (over 4000 pages altogether) but I am sad to be so close to the end too because the story is pretty awesome :) I also read The Help, great book. Have you read Water for Elephants? That's another great read.
  • Right now just reading the design*sponge book, but other than that, I don't really have time to read.  DH an I go to the library a lot during the summer and I normally get some kind of classic novel.

  • Thanks for all of the suggestions!  I think Room will have to be next. I'll put true diary on my list as well.

I already read The Help and Water for Elephants. Both of those were great books and I highly recommend them if you haven't read them yet.

  • I just finished the "Hypnotist" last night.  It might be because of the fact it was set in Sweden, but it had tones that reminded me of the "Dragon Tattoo" series, because of the twisted graphic/sexual moments.  Didn't know about those when I got the book, it just came highly recommended on Amazon.kindle.  But it was still a very interesting read.

I also loved Hunger Games...how could you not?

Don't know what you're up for reading...but try:

"This is not your City" by Caitlin Horrocks (short stories collection, very good)

"The Raw Shark Texts" by Steven Hall (this is one you must read in the book form, not digital.  You will see why.  Kind of a literary sci-fi thing)

Anything Bill Bryson has written about his travels.  He is laugh out loud funny.

"The Thursday Next" series by Jasper Fforde (it's like...Harry Potter, and Monty Python, and has elements of action, love, is clever and humorous and it's all for grown-ups. Especially funny if you have a good knowledge of literary classics, and well-known books)

In honor of Halloween I will be starting "Killer" by Stephen Carpenter...:-)

  • I haven't been reading a ton lately, because there hasn't been anything I've wanted to read.  I have also read The Help, Room, and The Hunger Games series.  I loved The Help as well as Room!!  Room was very interesting!  The Hunger Games too me a while to get into because they really aren't the type of books that I typically read, but once I got into the first one I was hooked :-)

I am a HUGE fan of the author Ellen Hopkins.  I love all of her books.  She just came out with a new book called Perfect and I have it on hold at the library, so I am just waiting for it to come in.

I loved Water for Elephants! I've been meaning to get my paws on a copy of The Help but I think I'm going to wait until I've caught up on my "to read" stack a little more.
