TMI question about post partum bladder control

Did anyone else lose total bladder control after labor?  I literally have to wear poise.  I think it is because I have a cough still and every time I cough it is ridiculous.  Please tell me this goes away!

Re: TMI question about post partum bladder control

  • everytime I laughed I had the same problem and it eventually went away.
  • yep i did. and i didn't really remember having that problem w/ my 1st. it has gotten a LOT better but every once in a while i still have to make a sudden run for it (baby is 11 months)
  • Congratulations again! Hope things are settling in well for you with the baby. I was actually going to be your nurse the day you were discharged and then they ended up floating me to the other side. I was so busy I didn't get a chance to come back over and say hello.

Anyway about the bladder issues. It's totally normal and I'm sure the cough is making it worse. Do kegel exercises. Don't let your bladder get too full. Empty it often. The trauma from birth plus if you had a catheter put in can really mess you up for a while.

  • I remember there being times where I'd be like mid diaper change & all of a sudden having to go immediately! That sudden urge was the worst & I had many close calls! It did get better after about 2-3 months, maybe?

  • Yes. I had no idea it was a common problem and it wasn't just that I couldn't hold my pee, it was that I had no idea when I had to go. It's much better now, although still not normal. I've been doing kegal's a lot to try to get back to normal as soon as possible.
