Dude.
I came to Houston today for a finance class for work. (I am going to be so lost tomorrow. MB does not equal finances.)
Anyway - the "southern hospitality" apparently stops at like the Alabama border or something. Between asking for help to find the rental car counter at the airport, the rental car lady being less than helpful about toll roads that don't have booths to pay at (WTF? This is ridiculous...), a guy giving me the bird because I was doing the speed limit... This is so bizarre. Or I am too "small town". :-) haha
I also went to a sushi place for dinner. The sushi chef said "gracias". And then I got hit on by a man named Manual who said "My youngest daughter is your age...how old are you?" Me: "27". Him "Oh, no, my youngest son is your age...my daughter is older."
Man. I thought I didn't look a day over 25. ;-) j/k
Houston is, well, interesting so far. :-)
Re: Texas
I can't believe you're in Houston! I would have totally driven in to see you!
Anyway, yeah, we have a toll road in Houston that you have to have a pre-paid tag to drive on. I accidentally got on it once too.
Sorry Houston hasn't shown you any Southern charm- driving in the city blows for sure.
And lol about the Manuel guy!
I just got in this evening...I didn't get to my hotel until around 6:30 or so. I am here until Tuesday evening - so if you get a wild hair tomorrow, we can meet up for dinner! :-)
I don't remember how far out from Houston you are though...
The Westchase Marriott.
I'm an idiot and thought the class was being held here. Apparently it's being held at the Hilton that is down the street. Oops! :-)
ETA: Traffic really is a b!tch. I am really not looking forward to driving back to the airport Tuesday evening. >_<
Whoops!
& darn, that is way on the opposite side of where I live. I've got parent-teacher conferences after school tomorrow- there's no way I can make it out there with beltway traffic at any decent hour or I would. Anyway, I hope you have a better time tomorrow. Did you fly into Hobby or Intercontinental?
Bummer! I am sure I'll be back to Houston at some point - so I will try to plan better next time!
I flew into International... I wanted to fly Southwest but I needed a late flight out on Tuesday and Continental is the only late (and conveniently, direct) flight out.
We will make it happen next time! :-)
Intercontinental is really close to my work. I'm going to get out of my last conference at 4:30 on Tues if you were able to meet near the airport before your flight. We could get Starbucks or something.
Otherwise, definitely next time!
