Classic Movie Poll

Inspired by The Glass Bottom Boat which I am currently watching on TCM - what is your favorite classic movie?

I really like Glass Bottom Boat, but my favorite is Pillow Talk - Rock Hudson/Doris Day rom/com. Silly, innocent and yet slightly sexy. Of course I happen to think Rock Hudson was the epitome of sexy - gay or not! My second favorite Rock Hudson movie is Come September. Now I'm drooling! lol

Re: Classic Movie Poll

  • jeez, where should I even begin... I like too many of them to have a favorite.

    The Ghost and Mrs Muir

Mr. Blandings builds his dream house,The Bishops Wife (OK, just about anything with Cary Grant in it).

Holiday Inn, The Bells of St Marys, Boys Town, Angels with Dirty Faces

oh yes, we do get the classic movie channel here.

  • I really like the Three faces of Eve, Towering Inferno, Poseidon Adventure and Fiddler on the roof. I can watch these films over and over.

I've never heard of Glass Bottom Boat and checked our TCM, but it's not on.

  • Oh, we watched To Catch a Thief when we were in Antibes.  H had never seen it before but was pretty amazed that not much had changed in the area at all.

  • I forgot Papillon, it's one of my favourites of all time!
  • I know they're cliche, but I love Casablanca and Citizen Kane.

I also love classic westerns along the lines of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence and Stagecoach.

  • Don't forget The Maltese Falcon, Jezebel, and Mildred Pierce

  • Gigi is one of my favorites, as is Sabrina, both of which I think I've seen at least a dozen times.  I have so many favorites from that era as I used to watch TCM all the time back in the States.
I like pineapples...they make life just so much more interesting.
  • This is so hard to narrow down! I love Sabrina, and Gaslight is one of my all time favorites (I didn't realize until recently that "gaslighting" someone is actually a term people use because of that movie).

To Catch a Thief is great, the costumes and scenery in that movie are awesome. How to Marry a Millionaire is also a favorite, how great is Lauren Bacall?

  • Second/third (I've lost count) To Catch a Thief.  I also like Giant and  A Streetcar Named Desire (yes, I know it's depressing, but it was so well done).  Around the Holidays, I'm a sucker for It's a Wonderful Life and, yes, I do like to sing-along to Sisters in White Christmas w/ my sister.  Lots of cheese, I admit it!  But they're wonderful films.

Probably my favorite movie is Gone With the Wind-- Vivian Leigh is wonderful, but all the cast members are great, the costuming, the sets, etc.  Just beautifully made.

  • I love Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream Home, Little Women (with Katherine Hepburn), White Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life, The Seven Little Foys, Mr. Roberts (though that may be pushing "classic", To Kill a Mockingbird, Meet Me in St. Louis, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, High Society, Goodbye Mr. Chips... and the Thin Man series...among others.
I don't mind being held to a higher standard; I mind being held to a lower one. (Sam Seaborn, The West Wing)

  • So many great classic movies and so little time to watch them!
