Have you ever been in December? Are the decorations really cool or would it be worth waiting to go until January?
Either way we would be there during offpeak times (not during the holidays.)

Re: Disney people
and the castle covered in lights. I actually won't go at any other time of the year.

Oooohhhh...
It is ~$25 more per night to be there Dec v Jan. Decisions, decisions.

Can you go that last week of Nov? I think all the decorations are out by then! I actually think before hand...I'm pretty sure once they take down Halloween ones Christmas starts going up.
acutally early nov

They go up Nov 8th. End of Nov is same price as December.
If I could convince my parents to stay somewhere else besides the Grand Floridian...the Contemporary is the same price for both Dec and Jan. But I am pretty sure I will lose that battle.

I don't think there's anything more magical than Christmas at Disney. I know that probably sounds cheesy but it's true. I used to take my letter to Santa to the Magic Kingdom because that's Santa
I absolutely love Candlelight Processional at Epcot. It's worth it to do a lunch or dinner package because you get guaranteed seating at the show and a reserved viewing area for fireworks. I listen to my CD over and over again during the Christmas season. The light show on the arch as you walk towards the showcase is neat too. It's a good spot to take a family picture.
Osborn Family Lights at the Studio are cool. There's Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party at the Kingdom.
My favorite thing now is "The Magic, The Memories and You" - it's the projection show on Cinderella's castle about 10 minutes before Wishes. Whoever created this is a genius! We were there in June and I just stood on Main Street in awe, just like a little girl meeting Mickey or Minnie for the 1st time.
We're going home the week in between Christmas and New Years and hope to fit in a day at Disney just to hit ours favs, even in the midst of the craziness.
We usually go right in the middle of November and all the decorations are completely out...Christmas is in full-effect then. My favorite thing is snow on Main Street at Magic Kingdom! We like to take advantage of Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party....nothing better than getting to STAY on Splash Mountain and ride it over and over at your heart's content!
Suffice to say, it's a lot of fun that time of year!
Totally worth it!!!
Our next Disney trip will be in 2013 in early December.
Can.not.wait.
FWIW, I really like The Contemporary. Hopefully you can convince your parents to stay there!

They do keep the Christmas decorations up until part way through January, at least they did a couple of years ago. We went mid the first week of January until the beginning of the 3rd I think. A couple of days after the marathon.
As long as you don't mind not having the Osbourne lights or Mickey's Christmas special thingy, then you can check into going right after the new year. That said, I believe the "season" is still considered holiday still so it wouldn't really matter.
Right now they have theses specials on their site:
