Best place to buy appliances?

Big box or local?

Fwiw we need fridge and dishwasher

Re: Best place to buy appliances?

  • We got ours at Home Depot.  I believe they had a sale and if you open a card you get x% off.  It was the best deal we found.

  • We got our fridge and dishwasher at Best Buy at a Columbus Day sale.  They are Frigidaire stainless steel and we got them for a good price.  I like them and had no complaints about the whole buying from Best Buy thing. They worked with us on delivery- which we postponed 3 times.  I also ordered them online, which I had no problems with whatsoever.

There is a Sears Scratch N Dent at the Deptford Mall if that interests you.

My parents will only go to Sears for appliances.  They swear by them.

    Good luck with everything!

What you do is get prices from different places like Home Depot, Lowes, HH Gregg, Best Buy, local places, etc. and then give them a call. Have the model #, name and price ready. They will beat all the prices but the only drawback is that you have to pay cash (no credit cards). Everything is new and has warranties. We got ALL appliances for our house from them and we saved a couple thousand dollars. I highly recommend.

    Cash is king!

Do they have a showroom? Or will I need to shop around on my own?

  • We purchased our washer, dryer and first fridge at the Sears outlet in Newark, DE.

Pros: no sales tax, you select your model from the floor, lots of selection; they take cash, credit and Sears cards; 1 year warranty.

Cons: you have to figure out delivery on your own; you may not be able to get color matches (we only had this with our washer/dryer--one is white, the other is beige).

When our fridge "died," we ended up buying a stainless, french door fridge from Lowe's. Next day delivery. The delivery people contracted by Lowe's were a bunch of d*cks, though.

The fridge never really died, though...mr erbur left the door ajar (like an inch) for 12+ hours and he thought the thermostat died. So, we went shopping after work for our new fridge, expecting to come home to a fridge that was broken.  Yeah, never died...  It is now five years later, running strong in our basement storing all of our beer and my winter cooking sprees.

  • We have always had good luck at Lowe's.  If you go with any of the big stores watch for sales.  They are always having free delivery and some kind of discount/rebate deal going on.

Also, PECO has had some sort of deal going if you upgrade to an energy star appliance.  I think they will pay you to take your old one away or something like that.  Check out their website.

I will have to remember that!

There is also a new Sears Outlet in East Norriton-I haven't bought anything from there but they may have decent prices. We ended up buying from Sears-I am cheap so I am all about finding the best price. GL

I can't give you a definite answer if they have a showroom because my husband handled everything but I do think they have some appliances on-site. It's probably not a huge selection though. With everything that we wanted, they didn't have it in stock and he ordered everything for us. Ordering didn't take long at all and they delivered everything as well. We literally purchased every appliance that you possibly could for a home (because of the fire) and we were able to save a ton of money. Def shop around, know what you want, get the best price you can find and then give them a call.

  • Lachute - I just spoke to my husband. He said that you will have to do all the research on your own before. He said you don't even have to go down there... you can just call and get prices. We got 2 TVs, fridge, washer, dryer, dish washer, microwave, wall oven and cook top from him and DH said that Anthony's "smoked all other prices" and we saved over $6,000.00 going with Anthony's.

Another drawback though is that he cannot get Kenmore products because they are specifically only for Sears. But if you are looking into LG, GE, Samsung, etc., you should be OK.

I've heard of Dominics.  I think he's the same deal as Anthony's that HW is talking about.  You shop around at other stores, call him with the info and he will get it cheaper.  We ended up at Sears for our W/D but they were LG's.  I think we ended up going through Sears because of the financing.

  • i found the best prices at Sear's with a sale and promo from ebates at the time, and free delivery. I would go somewhere that has a selection and decide on what you like then shop around. Dominic's is a local place and usually has the best prices if you don't want a big chain place

  • Washer/Dryer- Home depot with a coupon and the discount for opening a card... plus 0% financing for a year and free delivery!

Fridge- Sears Outlet at Franklin Mills. We got a side by side, stainless steal for half the price (even with delivery and the 5 year warranty) because it had a scratch in the back corner.

  • There's an appliance outlet down the road from us, Appliance King or Queen something like that. We've also found great deals in the scratch and dent section in Lowe's and Best Buy. If you use HH Gregg know that they are on commission.
