Is this happening to anyone else?
Our milk is going bad before the sell by date.
Wednesday (10/12), I tossed 1/2 a gallon and the sell by date was 10/15. This is the 5th or 6th time this has happened recently.
Normally, there's only enough milk for 1 bowl or cereal or something, so I never really cared since it wasn't that much to waste - but this time I was pissed becasue it's the 2nd 1/2 gallon or more that i've had to toss. I would have brought it back to the store but I was in a hurry and then went out of town.
It's so annoying because i'll psych myself up for a bowl of cereal or cookies with milk, and then I get the milk and it's gone bad.
It's the Lucerne brand, if that matters.

I always buy organic milk and the sell by date is typically about two weeks further out than the regular stuff. That gives me more time to use it!
I don't think I've ever had a problem with milk going bad before the date though, organic or otherwise. H will usually drink it a few days passed the expiration if need be. I don't trust it, personally.
No, that's really weird. I like the Lucerne Premium Skim, and we always drink it before the sell by date.
Actually, we're drinking some chocolate milk still that had a 10/15 sell by date- should finish it off tonight, but it is still going strong.

I buy Lucerne too and I haven't had any issue with it.
Isn't there something funky with your fridge though, with regards to it being really cold in back but not in front or something like that? Maybe the temp fluctuation could be doing it?
Or maybe like the earlier chili post, someone is leaving it on the counter and not fessing up (this could happen in my house....)
We've seemed to have fixed that issue, and i've started putting it towards the front of the fridge anyways.

Huh. I'm surprised DH could taste the difference in organic milk. I don't really drink milk so we had this problem a lot till we switched to organic.
Also - I'm assuming you're not storing the milk in the door? We keep ours on the far left wall of the fridge (next to the freezer). I realize there's probably no temp difference but I feel better making my milk carton touch the freezer wall.
