Starting crochet. Need yarn help for first project!
I'm taking an introduction to crochet class in a couple of weeks. We will be making this blanket project:

The shop only had a couple of options of yarn in stock to purchase for the project and none in neutral colors. I'd like to go to Michael's or similar and pick something out. I know nothing about weights or types of yarn. Can someone help me figure out what to buy? I'd like it to be machine washable.
Thanks,
Tracy

I'm not too familiar with what's at Michael's but it looks like you want a cotton yarn in worsted weight. Almost all cotton yarns are washable, so you shouldn't have a problem there.
Last time I was there, it looked like most of their yarns are worsted weight, so it should be pretty easy to find one.

The pattern calls for worsted weight organic cotton. You should be able to find organic cotton at MIchaels, and if not, there should be a ton of worsted weight yarn. Most of the yarns at Michaels will indicae the weight, and you can google yarn weights to see what you should be looking for.

Here are the yarn recs for that blanket from Ravelry.

Ditto PP's - also to add to this - worsted weight yarns generally have a little symbol that looks like a skein of yarn and a number 4 on the little skein (picture):
