Would you put your dog down if they couldn't control their bladder?
Do they make dog diapers? I guess we could get puppy pads and teach him to go on those maybe.
Max, our dog, was diagnosed with fanconi disease earlier this year and we've been controlling it with vitamins/supplements. In the past couple of weeks he has reverted back to drinking a lot (poor pup tried to get into the toilet one night last week for water because he'd already drank his bowl dry), has started again to lose control of his bladder and wakes us up at least once a night, sometimes more, to go outside.
We are taking him to the vet tomorrow for additional tests to check his levels and also going to check his thyroid.
Re: What to do about dog?
How is his overall quality of life? Except for the bladder, is he happy and playful? I would have a hard time putting a dog down regardless, but especially if their quality of life is still good!
If all his levels check out ok, I would probably get the puppy pads. Is he kenneled when nobody is home? Is that an option to avoid accidents?

If he couldn't reliably use puppy pads or a dog door (if you even wanted to install one), then I would euthanize. Dog diapers are horrible. Horrible. My parents used them on their dog when he was going downhill. He was a small dog (~20 lbs), and I can't even tell you how nasty it was. And uncomfortable for him; he hated it. If they had it all to do over again, they would have said goodbye a lot sooner. That dog was like a third child to them, so it's not a statement they make lightly.
I'm sorry your dog is having difficulty again. I hope the vet can work out something to make it better and you don't have to face this decision yet. ((hugs))
Yes. Someone who keeps their dog around even if they are peeing/pooping all over the house uncontrollably - gets the side eye from me. That stinks - literally. You might not be able to smell it, but I guarentee other people can when they come in your house. Plus its just gross.
if you are okay with it - then go for it. My dog was shitting/pissing/falling all over the house and I had enough - my house/carpet/flooring is worth more than them, sorry dog! She was old and had a good life - and while I hated that dog and it was sad putting her down, I dont feel any regrets about it.
I know of a dog rehab place, in glenwood - called the GLOCK school of dog therapy.....if you want to enroll your canine in my program.
You had me until the end of this sentence, typical Tiff!
You mean GLOCK didn't initially give it away.
Personally if his condition can't be controlled with vitamins, meds then it is probably time. But if he is attacking the toilet to get water that would concern me.
