Best Shoes for Fall/Winter Travel

B and I are headed to London in late November, and I'm starting to plan.  Usually when I travel I wear a pair of Pumas or Merrils, but given that it's going to be cold, I figure I may want something different.  At home, I just treck around in my winter boots once it gets cold, but I'm thinking I may want something different given that we'll be doing a lot of walking.

Any recommendations?

Re: Best Shoes for Fall/Winter Travel

  • I live in running shoes too at that time of year with that temperature. To be totally honest, I have yet to wear cute looking footwear when I'm out and about touring. In November, I don't think it's cold enough to be lugging winter boots around (especially because it's London) - but if you have lightweight flats ones, that may work. It's all about comfort, isn't it?
  • I was also going to suggest a comfortable lightweight boot.  Although people wear Uggs at all times, so something heavier probably wouldn't be too out of place!  Even with all the travel we do, I am still seriously lacking a comfortable pair of cooler weather shoes and usually just resort to boots.

  • I'm like kaesha and live in my running shoes during the winter, but I'm thinking about trying out a pair of Clarks Unstructured (like this pair). I tried boots last winter, but they didn't work for the amount of walking I do--they gave me top-of-foot problems. I had a pair of Unstructured sandals for the summer, and they worked out great--very comfortable and withstood the beating of a three-mile walk every day.

  • I am big fan of Dansko clogs with the U back (here) they come in many different styles are a pretty slip proof.  I wore them in undergrad when I was a waitress and walking all over campus.    You really can wear any type of sock that you want to from wool to panty hose and they are pretty waterproof.
