Where do you get your craft supplies?

I'm talking about cardstock, fabric, paper, etc... Is there any website online that sell them cheaper than Michaels, ACMoore or Joanns?

Re: Where do you get your craft supplies?

  • I do a combo most of my fabric comes from the local quilt shops but sometimes I get at Joanns.  My paper typically comes from Archivers stampin up or amazon.com (they often have good deals on the heavier weight card-stock)   I prefer the heavier stuff for my card bases then the typical stuff from Hobby Lobby or Michael's.
  • 99% comes from Hobby Lobby, Michael's, or Joanne's.

  • All kinds of places. WalMart for some fabric and basic craft supplies. Oriental Trading company for bits and pieces for crafting, and glue.

Hobby Lobby, Michael's, Joanne's for most things.

I also like Hancock for some fabrics and notions.

If you just keep an eye out for the ads and flyers, and strike while the sales are on, it can be hard to beat the big three when it comes to basics.

  • I go to AC Moore and Michael's a lot because I usually always have coupon for those places.

I also order some things from scrapbook.com.

  • I'm afraid to order most of my scrapbooking items from a catalog or internet site because I won't know what exact color or quality it is until I can get it in my hands.  I will order standard stuff (like brads, Cricut carts, etc) off the internet.

  • Hobby Lobby, Michaels and a privately owned craft shop here.
  • AC Moore, Michaels, and Jo-anns are my primary shops, they send me coupons, and I like googling for coupons while i'm @ the register (gotta love smart phones!!!) Cards and such, I go tho the paper-source. I really love the colors they carry, and I feel the quality is tops! I have a couple of local fabric shops I also frequent.

  • it's amazing what you can find at thrift stores.  for a buck, you can get $20 worth of supplies sometimes.  many people have elaborate ideas that they don't complete and donate.  most of the fabric and polyfill i have used recently have come from thrift stores.  i've made maybe 8 softies, two skirts for me, a coat for my son, etc...for maybe $.50-$1.00 worth of fabric. • I get most of my fabric at Jo-Anns. There aren't a lot of options around here.

  • Fabric - usually Joann - I won't buy it if it is not on sale or unless I have a 40% off coupon.  I also just ordered from Fabric.com for the first time - the price on what I wanted to buy was cheaper than Joann.

For yarn, - local yarn shops, knitpicks.com, WEBS (i.e. yarn.com - great quantity discounts and one great deal per day on yarn - it's a different yarn every day).  I will also buy yarn from Joann/Michaels/AC Moore for things like blankets and baby gifts - usually the Caron Simply Soft, Caron One Pound or Pound of Love from Lion Brand are my go-tos.  The big box stores are only good for acrylic worsted weight yarn - otherwise I use one of the others I mentioned.

Paper/vinyl/Pazzles supplies - Amazon.com or another online vendor - I just usually check through Google shopping to make sure I am getting the best price for what I need.  I did use Anchor Paper for my wedding and have wonderful things to say about them.

    ETA:

Thread I usually get at Joann when they have 50% off all thread which is actually going on right now (Moonlight Madness). When I have had the occasion to do quilting, if I don't have the right color/weight thread from my Nana's stash (which I inherited), I will buy the thread at the quilt shop.  Depending on if you are doing applique, piecing, or quilting, you are supposed to use different weights of thread.

For embroidery stabilizers I also get them at Joann and the ones you purchase by the yard are MUCH cheaper than the prepackaged ones.

     Ditto.

  • I buy almost everything from Joanns or Hancock (unless I order stuff online, but that is typically designer fabric so more $$).

Both stores accept competitors coupons so when I walk up to the register, they get a handful of coupons and I never pay full price.  My last one was my best ever.  I bought $52 worth of stuff (full price) for $9.03 :)  Between a "moonlight madness" sale (at 3:00 in the afternoon?), all my coupons and an extra 20% off--oh, don't foget that I scour the bolts of the fabric I like to find ones near the end for the end of bolt discount!
