s/o dinner parties

I'm actually going to one on Saturday (it's a group of girls that gets together very regularly, although it's usually HH and this time it's a smaller turn out so we're doing dinner).  The host is making "chicken with cremini mushrooms, mustard mascarpone marsala sauce and fettuccine" and then an apple or pear dessert.  I'm supposed to bring a salad... what goes with that?  Normally this time of year I like the whole apple/blue cheese/nuts etc salad, but then there's an apple/pear dessert.  Thoughts?

Re: s/o dinner parties

  • right now I want spinach salad, with sliced almonds, bacon, and honey mustard! It it doesn't have to be honey mustard - but the rest is yummy!

  • you could do spinach, almonds, feta, craisens, and balsalmic vinegarette. and croutons if you want. but otherwise, it's super bomb!

This is one of my favorites. I always leave the almonds to the side in case anyone has an allergy.

I also love apple and/or pear and blue cheese salads - can you make the host commit to one or the other and then roll with it?

I could, I was just thinking maybe I should do something a little more different since either way it would be sort of 'similar', plus this is a great opportunity for me to get a new recipe out of your guys :D

  • Dh says because dinner sounds so heavy, do something light. a vinaigrette garden salad with radishes, and a cheese to tie into the rest of the dishes. He says vinaigrette because there's no other acidity in any of the other dishes.
  • The salad you had planned to bring is my favorite, but i also like mixed salad greens (with a little chopped dinosaur kale if you like it), with poppyseed dressing, dried cherries and (candied or toasted) pecans.
