Hey ladies! I've been crazy catching up with family over the past couple of weeks, but just checking in and wanted to share the apartment story.
So E went apartment hunting in LA while I was still in Cambodia, and we had decided on a neighborhood where many of the places were almost identical in size, layout and price. He ended up finding one that has an extra den off of the master bedroom but it was a bit above our price range. He got to talking to the landlord, who is a grandmotherly type in her seventies, and she took to him really quickly - we're talking cheek-pinching and all. In the end she offered to knock $200 a month off the price for him. He didn't want to decide without me seeing it though, so he agreed to come back the next weekend and take photos to send to me.
When he went back the next weekend there were 2 other couples there, both ready to take the place at the original price immediately. So, as he tells me, he waited for them to left and then "went into lawyer mode." He started talking about how we had been off travelling for so long and now we're really ready to settle down and make our home in LA. When that didn't completely convince her, he said that we really needed a place with an extra den because we're planning on starting a family ASAP and it would be the perfect nursery. Well that won her over, and the apartment is ours for $200 less than originally listed. And now when the landlord calls E for any reason, she says "give my love to Lindsey!"... and I've never even met her. We have a theory that E reminds her of her late husband in some way, and that's why she likes him so much. I wonder how she'll feel about us if she ever has to come to our place and sees that we're turning the den into a walk-in closet!
One more fun fact, the unit we're in was our landlord's home with her family for a long time. As it turns out, her son wrote "Wedding Crashers"... WHILE living in our place! So the scene with Will Ferrell where he's yelling at his mom about the meatloaf was inspired by our landlord and our new apartment.
And scene.
Re: The apartment story... long.
We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?

Ha..that is quite a story. So yeah you could easily covert that walk in closet into a nursery..just saying...
HOLY SHT about the wedding crashers scene, that's like one of the best scenes of the movie, too funny its about HER!
Glad E was able to sweet talk his way into getting the apartment. Maybe buy a crib and use it to store your handbags

Wait was it Adam McKay who wrote Wedding Crashers???
Did you know he grew up in Philly and that Ron Burgandy is based on Jim Gardner (abc) in the 70s... they were talking about that on Preston and Steve about 2 wks ago. Also, have you seen the Funny or Die "Landlord" it's Adam's daughter, do you think maybe she's playing his mom? I need to go look this up now....
ETA: disregard that, he didn't write it....
