but it was anti-climatic for viewers as we already knew that from the "smoking" episode a couple of years back.
ted went on a date with a chick he met at the bar and they didn't google each other beforehand so they went into it "blind", but then his friends sent him info on her at the last second and he finds out she's amazing but that ruins everything as he becomes intimidated by her success.
robin's boyfriend psychoanalyzes the group's many co-dependency issues and whatnot.

What does everybody think of Kal Penn (Robin's bf)? I like him and his character. I don't know if I just need another person to mix things up, or a person to point out just how disfunctional and incestuous their relationships are, but I like the addition of him.
I wonder how long he'll be around for.
I don't remember this at all.
The slideshow of baby outfits was a little weird (why would Barney care about baby clothes? It didn't seem like he was trying to sell them or anything), but my bet is that those were Neil Patrick Harris's real-life kids so they just threw it into the episode to be cute. He said on Letterman a while back that he and his H dress them in silly little outfits often.
I like Kal Penn but I don't know if I'm digging the Kevin character. I really just can't get over that he's dating his former patient. I know it's a TV show and sometimes you have to suspend disbelief, but it's still really icky.
Maybe they brought him in so he can actually point out these weird hangups they have, and then they can finally stop being so co-dependent on each other? This might be piggybacking on what Victoria was saying a couple episodes ago about how their whole group dynamic just doesn't work anymore.
There was an episode a few seasons ago where it's revealed that they're all casual smokers (even though that's about the only time we ever see them smoking) and keep trying to quit but can't. The Future Ted voiceover said that they all eventually quit for good - Lily quit when they started TTC, Marshall quit "when his son was born," Robin and Barney quit on specific dates in the future, and Ted quit two weeks into dating The Mother.
That's what I assumed, too.
This episode was meh for me. I'm not that crazy about Kal Penn's character. I like Kal, but just not the character he plays on this show. And I do think it's weird to date your therapist, let alone one you saw because you couldn't get over your ex boyfriend. Just weird.
So, is Lily supposed to be like 20w pregnant? Because she sure doesn't look it, and you can't find out the sex of the baby much earlier than that. it drives me nuts when shows do this, like when Quinn from Glee found out she was having a girl when she was like 5 minutes pregnant.
Barney was just trying to illustrate why Marshall and Lily needed to open the envelope. His sales pitch was that without knowing boy or girl they wouldn't get cute, gender specific gifts at the their baby shower.
Wow, you guys have really good memories. I remembered the episode but never would've remembered when they each quit.
That bothered me, too. They couldn't put a little fake belly on her? In the episode at the hibachi place they had her in that giant sweater and awful, awful jean skirt to make her look bigger.
She should be giving birth at the end of the season, so if they're sticking to real time then it'd be born in May and so she'd currently be about 8-10 weeks, maybe? I feel like they should've done some more research into pregnancy before trying to write in things like this that can easily be disproven.
I get that he was trying to convince them to open the envelope, but I'm just surprised that the character would go to that much trouble for anything other than finding a new girl to plow.
Then again, since he's with Nora now, I guess that energy's got to go somewhere else?
I loved this episode! It was the best in a long time, IMO.
I like the Kevin character, just for the fact that he mixes it up a bit, and him going through all their issues was hilarious. Especially the physical violence montage -- but H was disappointed they didn't show the sword fight.
I remember the smoking episode, but, I didn't remember the "son" part. So, I was still excited.
Ditto PP about finding out the gender so early, she doesn't look 20 weeks. But, people on TB are finding out around like 14 weeks now a days. So, I guess, maaaayyybe but still lame.
We love how they use the "Murder Train" song from Robin's ex-boyfriend (James Van Der Beek) everytime there's a violence scene. So funny!

Did anyone else notice that Robin looked like she dramatically dropped 15 pounds from the last couple of episdoes? She looked SUPER skinny.
