I work from home, but regularly head into the city for client meetings. I was really proud of myself today for planning ahead for anything - extension cord since my laptop can rarely reach nearest outlet. Snacks and quarters for soda machine. Agency badge. All files pulled down locally in case wifi isnt working. Backup heels in car (yes, broke one once!!) and left with plenty of time to get from Bristow to L'Enfant in rush hour.
Forgot the breast pump. I just realized its about that time and I didnt even THINK to pack it. I'm here in meetings til 2pm and forsee a miserable lunch break manually expressing into a toilet, crying over my teeny stash and wasted milk
sucks
Re: mom and work fail
there is a CVS in L'Enfant plaza, perhaps they sell a hand held manual pump? there is another around the corner in the 500 block of C street.
If not, can you hop on Metro and head over to the Breastfeeding Center at lunch time? It's probably 20 minutes each way. you can also buy ziplock bags and express into them. breastmilk is good at room temperature for up to 8 hours. pretty sure i read that on kellymom.com. might be worth it to not have to throw away that liquid gold!
it's happened to many of us! you aren't alone. still sucks though. hope your day gets brighter.
CVS sometimes sells the Lasinoh breastmilk storage bags as well. Expressing by hand is a hassle, but it will provide relief.
I forgot my pump flanges one day and it felt like the biggest 'DUH' moment. You are doing great, you've got a lot on your plate!

2141 K Street, NW
looks like the closest metro stop is foggy bottom and it's a .25mi walk from there. exit using the main exit and walk up 23rd towards Washington Circle (passing GWU hospital on your left). go around the circle and head right on K street. it will be on the next block. it's on the first floor of a big brown brick building.
i wouldn't drive at lunch time, the traffic in mid-town can be really bad sometimes and you'll have to pay a bunch to park in the garage or waste time looking for street parking, plus pay again when you get back to l'enfant
good luck!
I forgot my pump on two seperate out of town trips - as a result we own two backup hand pumps. We got both at CVS - I hope your trip was a success. And don't feel bad - if that is the only thing you forgot - you are doing good!
Ziplock baggies ended up being the trick. I squeezed in an extra pumping session this morning, and was able to send her with enough to daycare this morning without dipping into my freezer stash. Yay!!
Lindsey, thanks for that link to the birthing center. I'm super intrigued by their baby wearing class, and am going to try to go next week. Thanks!!
sure! so glad it worked out for you!
are you aware of the beltway babywearers? they have regular meetings in ffx and PWC. fun2dream, who used to be on the dc baby board a lot when she was expecting last year is a chapter leader. www.beltwaybabywearers.blogspot.com
